Valve denies the configs removal rumors from Counter-Strike 2.

Recently there were rumors circulating that Valve might no longer allow players to create their own autoexec and configs files for Counter-Strike 2. This worried the community, but fortunately, one developer confirmed that they had no intention of making such a move.

Valve denies the configs removal rumors from Counter-Strike 2

There was speculation about the removal of autoexec and configs files as frequent updates rolled out for CS2. SPUNJ and ropz both believed it was in Valve’s plans, but Valve has now clarified its stance.

After these rumors, the community started to worry. Someone reached out to a Valve developer through email, and surprisingly, they responded. The user asked, “Hello, there is a rumor going around that Valve will remove autoexec and config and I would like to ask you if this is true.”

The response was clear: “We don’t have any plans to remove the ability for users to create autoexecs or configs.” This was verified by a reliable data miner and leaker named gabefollower.

Removing autoexec configs would take away a lot of functionality, like binding keys to specific functions for things like jump throws, radar zoom changes, and numerous other options. And devs have no plans to do so.

SPUNJ, a Counter-Strike caster, discussed on HLTV’s Twitch channel that Valve might remove configs. And Ropz from FaZe Clan confirmed that he had heard the same. Configs are files that allow players to keep their settings and command lists in one place, making it easy to apply them in-game. They’re crucial for transferring settings between computers and for executing practice commands in a practice server.

SPUNJ stated, “They [Valve] will do it… They want to make it so that when your settings are done when you go to another computer, your settings will carry across.”

Later, ropz reiterated, saying, “They will do it 99%, there are already ‘cloud’ cfg files.” This would mean that cfg files, including settings, would be saved to the cloud instead of the local system, eliminating the need for local config files.
