Nintendo, one of the world’s largest entertainment companies, is reportedly preparing to launch its successor to the Nintendo Switch, tentatively referred to as the Nintendo Switch 2, this year.
Known for its significant contributions to the gaming industry, Nintendo’s most successful innovation to date is the Nintendo Switch. This affordable gaming console, which can be used both on-the-go and on your TV, has featured some of the best games of all time.
Despite its success, there is room for improvement in the Nintendo Switch, particularly in terms of power. Rumors about a successor to the Switch have been circulating for years.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be released later this year. The new console will reportedly feature an 8-inch LCD screen.
The information comes from Omdia analyst Hiroshi Hayase, who stated that Nintendo will be “responsible for a doubling in shipments of so-called amusement displays in 2024”. Sharp Corp., an LCD display supplier that has previously worked with Nintendo, also hinted at working on an upcoming games console.
The current Nintendo Switch has a 6.2-inch screen, and the Nintendo Switch OLED has a 7-inch screen. An upgrade to 8 inches would be significant. However, it’s still unclear what will power the new console. It’s expected to be at least on par with the PS4, but more details are likely to be revealed this summer.
