According to a trustworthy leaker claims, 5 Resident Evil games are in development at Capcom right now, including Resident Evil 9.
Over the past few years, Capcom has experienced incredible success with its different titles including Resident Evil. All that is known about their intentions for Resident Evil, though, is that they are likely working on a ninth mainstream game right now. But, there is more to it.
UPDATE: 09/02/24
Adding to the previous details, Dusk Golem has said that several RE titles were greenlit in the last year and it does include Remakes. He said, “Capcom greenlit several Resident Evil titles in the last year or so, and it does include some remakes.”
AestheticGamer, also known as DuskGolem, recognized for his knowledge of unannounced projects in the gaming industry, shared new information on Discord and said Capcom is currently working on at least five new RE games, including Resident Evil 9.
Additionally, DuskGolem expressed his excitement about a major update he received on a Resident Evil project a while back. However, he cautioned that this particular game is unlikely to see the light of day until late 2026 or early 2027. Unfortunately, he refrained from giving further details as the release date is quite distant.
This revelation sparked a discussion in the comments about the potential projects, with speculation even arising about the prospect of a remake of the 2002 Gamecube version of Resident Evil 1. Despite its status as one of the greatest remakes of all time, some fans believe there’s a market for a modern adaptation.
One fan stated, “Remake is fantastic, but it is over twenty years old,” whereas another commented, “Whether or not it’s objectively needed, there is a market for fans who prefer the modern games and it would be more than a sound investment.”
In addition to the current information, DuskGolem had previously revealed Resident Evil 9 has the largest budget and longest development duration of any game in the franchise to date. Development for the game commenced in 2018, and he noted the smooth progress in development, drawing parallels with the unexpectedly swift release of the Resident Evil 4 remake after an internal reboot.
Furthermore, he stated that Capcom views Resident Evil 9 as the last installment in the series, moving on to new storylines and themes that would, in the end, take the franchise in a different direction. He clarified that Resident Evil 9 doesn’t follow Resident Evil 8 as directly as the latter did with Resident Evil 7. However, the plots of Resident Evil 8 and 9 were planned together to contribute to the conclusion of the current story arc.
In terms of reliability, AestheticGamer, or Dusk Golem, has a track record of accurate leaks regarding Resident Evil and other survival horror games over the years. His credibility extends to previously leaking insider information about Resident Evil 8, the Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Silent Hill: The Short Message.
