According to reports, Guerrilla’s upcoming Horizon multiplayer game is not one of the many PlayStation games that were recently canceled.
Amid widespread layoffs in the gaming industry, notable cancellations included Respawn’s Mandalorian first-person shooter and PlayStation’s live-service Twisted Metal game. However, the Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Horizon multiplayer game was one title that wasn’t canceled reveals a reliable insider.
When a reader inquired about the fate of Guerrilla’s Horizon online game amid the restructuring, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg responded with a simple “No.”
Well, according to sources, Guerrilla Games has let go of at least ten percent of its workforce. Although the precise number of layoffs is unknown, Sony has confirmed the departure of at least 900 employees from its gaming business as part of the global restructuring announced by Sony Interactive Entertainment earlier this week. The restructuring, which includes the planned closure of PlayStation London Studio, also involves job cuts at prominent studios like Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Firesprite, and Guerrilla.
Hermen Hulst, the former managing director of Guerrilla and head of PlayStation Studios, commented on the restructuring by stating that the firm was “reevaluating” its operations and that certain projects had been canceled. After the news broke, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed that Respawn’s rumored Mandalorian Star Wars game and a Twisted Metal live service game that was previously in development at Firesprite had been canceled. And this made us wonder if Guerrilla’s Horizon multiplayer was also on the list.
The Horizon multiplayer project was initially revealed in 2022, and since then, details about the game have been relatively scarce. The only true information is that it will follow a different plot from the prior two games and make use of some systems that fans of the series are accustomed to. This next game, which takes place in the Horizon universe, also has “a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look.” However, no information has been provided regarding its release date or whether it will be the next installment in the series.
Well, if not the next Horizon Multiplayer game, PlayStation is gearing up to launch Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on PC and PlayStation 5 on March 21, encompassing both the base game and the Burning Shores DLC.
