According to new reports, SEGA is currently working on Sonic Frontiers 2, building upon the gameplay mechanics introduced in the 2022 release of Sonic Frontiers.
When Sonic Frontiers initially came out in 2022, sales of the game broke records. Now, rumors suggest that because of this success, SEGA might be gearing up for a sequel.
The speculation began when movie insider Daniel Richtman (DanielRPK) teased on his Patreon that Sonic Frontiers 2 was in the works. Adding fuel to the fire, ‘Midori,’ a reputable SEGA/Atlus leaker on X supported Daniel’s claim.
Supporting the initial leak, Midori further claimed, “The title is a sequel to Frontiers in gameplay style. But the name might change. Frontiers were Rangers until it was announced.”
When it comes to revealing surprise games, both tipsters have a strong track record. For those who are unaware, “Midori” is regarded by many as one of the top SEGA/Atlus leakers available. He recently used X to share more information about upcoming SEGA games, revealing that every new game will be available on Nintendo’s yet-to-be-announced future platform. Hence, both DanielRPK and Midori’s track records lend credibility to the claims.
However, this doesn’t excuse you from treating this with extreme caution until an official announcement is made as game development is a dynamic process, and plans can change unexpectedly.
Although it’s unlikely that Sonic Frontiers 2 will be released this year, fans can look forward to other exciting Sonic projects. Knuckles is set to star in a new solo TV series premiering on April 26th via Paramount+, featuring the voice talent of Idris Elba. Additionally, there’s a buzz about upcoming post-launch content for Sonic Dream Team, although details on its release date are scarce. Also, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie is slated for release on December 20. So, there is a lot to look forward to.
Well, as of now, SEGA has not made any official announcements regarding a sequel to Sonic Frontiers. However, given the original game’s commercial success—it sold 3.5 million copies worldwide by May last year—and its status as the fastest-selling 3D game in the franchise, fans are quite hyped. But it’s best to wait for official confirmation before getting too excited about Sonic Frontiers 2.
