Microsoft has announced a price increase across all tiers of Xbox Game Pass, along with the introduction of a new “Standard” tier.
Call of Duty was said to be the reason behind a projected price rise and possible tier shift for Xbox earlier this year, and it appears that the time has finally come. After Xbox subscribers started receiving emails regarding the pricing and structure changes—both Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass are expected to see a price increase—Microsoft has officially disclosed this verified data.
Xbox Game Pass Price Increase
Starting September 12, 2024, the following changes will take place:
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: The price will increase from $16.99 to $19.99 per month. This tier includes access to hundreds of games, day-one titles, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- PC Game Pass: The price will go up from $9.99 to $11.99 per month and it will continue to include day-one releases.
- Xbox Game Pass Core: This tier, which replaced Xbox Live Gold, will increase from $59.99 to $74.99 per year, however, the monthly rate will remain at $9.99.
Xbox Game Pass New “Standard” Tier and Changes to the Existing Ones
Microsoft is introducing a new tier called Xbox Game Pass “Standard” for $14.99 per month. This tier will include access to the back catalog of games and Xbox Live Gold (now called Game Pass Core) for multiplayer, but it will not include day-one releases or Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Apart from the new tier in the Game Pass, we will also be getting changes for the existing subscribers.
- Game Pass for Console: This tier will be phased out for new users, but existing subscribers can keep it with all benefits like day-one games, if they maintain auto-renewal.
- Subscription Extensions: Starting September 12, Game Pass for Console subscriptions can only be extended up to 13 months using pre-paid cards.
It is to be noted that starting September 12, 2024, Xbox Game Pass subscribers worldwide will experience these price increases. So, if you have recurring billing, you’ll have time to decide whether to keep your subscription or cancel it.
