Looks like Microsoft might be cooking up something big for Xbox players. A recently spotted Xbox UI briefly showed a “Steam” tab, hinting that Steam games could be making their way to Xbox.
The image was quickly taken down, but not before sparking plenty of excitement. Let’s see where this goes.
Accidental Revelation of New Xbox UI Mockup
In a blog post called “Opening a Billion Doors with Xbox,” Microsoft showed off a new Xbox UI, and guess what? A “Steam” tab was sitting right there next to “Game Pass” and “Recently Added.”
Here is the image:
The mockup appeared on different devices like TVs, tablets, and even handhelds, hinting that Steam games could be coming to Xbox.
But once people started asking questions, the image vanished—almost like it wasn’t supposed to be seen yet. This lines up with Microsoft’s push to bring all gaming platforms together, which could mean Xbox players might get direct access to their Steam libraries soon.
Microsoft’s Strategy to Position Xbox App as the Central Hub for PC Gaming
Well, Microsoft is making the Xbox app an all-in-one spot for PC gamers. In December 2024, they rolled out a big update, adding almost 400 new PC games and giving the home screen a fresh look.
Now, players can easily find games from PC Game Pass, the Microsoft Store, and handpicked collections.
To make things even better, Microsoft is working on a feature that lets users see all their installed games—including ones from Steam and the Epic Games Store—right inside the Xbox app.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer is all for it—he even wants stores like Epic Games Store and Itch.io to be part of the mix.
As far as the appearance of the new Xbox app UI is concerned, Tom Warren, a senior editor at The Verge and author of Notepad covered this. But the update is still in early development, and the image was also removed, so nothing is set in stone yet.
