Sucker Punch Director Would ‘Love to Work on More Infamous’ Or Rerelease The Trilogy, But Can’t

Summary

  • Sucker Punch’s co-creative director, Nate Fox, has expressed interest in making more Infamous games or rereleasing the original trilogy.
  • The studio is currently focused on completing Ghost of Yōtei, following the success of Ghost of Tsushima.
  • Infamous was a flagship PlayStation series featuring superpowered Conduits facing moral choices impacting the world.
  • The studio’s “one game at a time” philosophy means no immediate plans for Infamous, despite fan interest.

Sucker Punch’s Focus Remains on Ghost of Yōtei

Sucker Punch, renowned for the Infamous series and more recently for Ghost of Tsushima, is currently fully dedicated to finishing its upcoming title, Ghost of Yōtei.

In an interview with Game Informer, co-creative director Nate Fox expressed a strong personal desire to revisit the Infamous franchise, including the possibility of rereleasing the original trilogy. However, he made it clear that the studio’s current priority is to focus on one game at a time, meaning the Infamous franchise is on hold for now.

He said, “I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy rerelease, but Sucker Punch is a one game at a time shop, and right now we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yōtei.”

Infamous, which debuted in 2009, was a groundbreaking series on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It centred around Conduits — people who discover superpowers in a realistic world and face moral dilemmas impacting their powers and story outcomes.

The trilogy followed Cole McGrath, while PlayStation 4 entries introduced new characters Delsin Rowe and Abigail Walker. Despite the series’ popularity, Sucker Punch has shifted its creative energies toward its “Ghost” series, leaving Infamous fans eager but waiting.

Future of Infamous: Remasters or Remakes Possible

Fans have long hoped for remasters or remakes of the original Infamous trilogy on modern PlayStation consoles, but these have yet to materialise. Given Sucker Punch’s current commitment to Ghost of Yōtei and its “one game at a time” approach, any revival of Infamous will likely happen after the Ghost series matures.

Some speculate that if remasters or remakes were to be planned, they might target the upcoming PlayStation 6 generation, which would extend the franchise’s legacy well into the future.

For now, players can look forward to the continued success of Sucker Punch’s new ventures while holding onto hope that Infamous will one day return, either as a new game or a refreshed trilogy.
