Bungie, the company that made Destiny 2, recently told fans they’re still dedicated to the game’s future, even though they had to let go of a lot of employees, which really worried the community. The company has revealed that they plan to share more info soon about Destiny’s “multi-year journey” to help clear up any concerns players might have.

Lately, Destiny 2 has been getting more popular again, thanks to new updates like “Into the Light” and the “Final Shape” expansion. These updates have kept the game exciting and brought back many players. But things got a bit shaky when Bungie announced they had to lay off over 200 workers. This news was unexpected and made many fans anxious about what would happen to the game next.

It was announced that the layoffs were part of bigger changes at Bungie, including canceling some projects and handing others over to Sony, who owns the studio. These changes have made fans nervous, especially about whether Destiny 2 will still get the big expansions they love, or if it will shift to smaller updates focused on repeatable activities.

Responding to these concerns, Bungie took to the official Destiny 2 Team account on Twitter and promised to be more open and communicate better with players. They’re planning to reveal more about Destiny’s future soon, including this “multi-year journey” that might explain where the game is headed.

“We’ll be talking with you all about the future of Destiny and plans for our next multi-year journey soon. Once we plant a flag for the date, we’ll let you all know,” Bungie said.

The studio thanked fans for their patience in the interim and said they plan to first set a date for a possible blog or broadcast to give further info. They also said that they’re still very much committed to the Destiny series, even though they’re dealing with some tough challenges right now.

One of those challenges is Bungie’s move away from big expansions, aiming to make the game more sustainable over time. The studio also canceled a Destiny spinoff and is working on bringing back their old game, Marathon. But even the Marathon project has hit some bumps, adding more uncertainty about what’s next for Bungie.

Jason Schreier from Bloomberg said in a recent podcast that the current development state of the game is “not great.” He said, “There’s a reason that it was planned for this year and slipped a whole year. People that I’ve talked to are a little pessimistic about it even hitting its current planned deadline, but we’ll see. I don’t know exactly when that is—sometime in 2025, I’m not sure. I mean, the sentiment I’ve heard is not great around it. At least as of a few months ago.”

Well, the layoffs also raised some questions about Bungie’s leadership. There were reports about Bungie’s CEO, Pete Parsons, spending on vintage cars, which made fans even more frustrated, especially with concerns about the studio’s financial health. The Destiny community is understandably upset and wants more accountability from the people in charge.

Even with all these problems, Bungie says they’re still dedicated to supporting Destiny 2. They’ve promised regular updates and communication with players as they work through the fallout from the layoffs. The next few weeks might be tough, but Bungie is focused on keeping players in the loop and engaged.

Recent leaks and speculation also suggest that Destiny 2 is getting a 10th anniversary update, with two more episodes planned. Parts of the alleged activity, such as new armor sets, limited-time victories, and events taking place in The Pale Heart destination, appear to have been discovered by dataminers. Although Bungie has yet to formally acknowledge such material, fans are expecting an announcement soon, at least by September 9, as it will be the tenth anniversary of Destiny’s first launch date.

Well, as Bungie gets ready to share more about Destiny’s future, fans are hopeful but also cautious. What the studio announces next will be really important for rebuilding the trust and confidence of their players.
