Deviation Games, the Los Angeles-based indie studio, has officially closed its doors, as announced by HR Chief and Operations Officer Kriste Stull. In a LinkedIn post, Stull expressed gratitude to the entire team for their hard work and dedication, acknowledging the contributions made to Deviation. He said:

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Deviation Games. I want to express my deepest gratitude to our entire team. Thank you for all your hard work, dedication, and contributions to Deviation; I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have worked with each and every one of you.
To the entire video game industry, we will be hosting a networking event, and we would love for any/all companies/studios hiring to participate. Please reach out to me directly if you are interested in attending.”

Additionally, some of the studio’s staff members like Senior character artist Alec Hunstad and lead user interface engineer Andrew Carrol (who are now actively seeking new job opportunities) also talked about the same on LinkedIn stating that the studio was shut down last Friday.

Alec Hunstad, in his LinkedIn post, mentioned, “After the closure of Deviation Games last Friday, I’m actively seeking Senior Character Artist roles. Looking forward to landing somewhere awesome.” Andrew Carrol expressed his sentiments, saying, “After the closure of Deviation Games last Friday, I find myself open to new opportunities again. I am especially sad as I had just joined the team, and they are a fantastic group of individuals. Our time together was far too short.”

Deviation Games, originally formed by ex-Call of Duty developers, had a rocky journey since its unveiling in 2021. The studio had announced a new Canadian branch in January 2022, indicating plans for workforce expansion. However, the situation took a downturn, leading to the departure of co-founder and game director Jason Blundell in September 2022.

Approximately ten months ago, Deviation Games faced significant layoffs, and the cancellation of their live service PlayStation IP, which was reported to have a cost of at least $50 million.

Well, Deviation Games is inviting all hiring organizations to a networking event that will be held soon for the affected staff members as a result of the shutdown, so we can expect to hear more from the developers then.
