Netflix Boosts Devil May Cry 5’s Popularity

Capcom has revealed that Devil May Cry 5 has officially sold over 10 million units worldwide.

The spike in popularity is largely thanks to the Devil May Cry Netflix anime, which premiered earlier this year and quickly gained a massive following. With over 5.3 million views in just eight episodes, the series ranked in the top 10 shows on Netflix Japan for a full week and secured a Season 2 renewal.

Capcom highlighted the success of its “Single Content Multiple Usage” strategy, where one IP is used across multiple formats. This strategy, along with the show’s success, gave Devil May Cry 5 a second wind of interest, especially among casual fans who were introduced to the franchise through the anime.

Gameplay Updates Also Played a Role

While the Netflix adaptation drove awareness, new in-game content also helped.

On April 3, 2025, Capcom added a new playable character, expanding both the story and action mechanics. Additionally, earlier updates like the inclusion of Vergil in the Special Edition also contributed to the game’s extended shelf life and renewed player interest, especially on Steam, where player numbers spiked recently.

Franchise Continues to Grow

The Devil May Cry series has now sold over 33 million units since the original launched in 2001.

With rumors that the original game’s director wants to remake the first title, and with Netflix’s show confirmed for another season, the momentum for this action-packed franchise isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
