Dragon Quest Day 2025 Revealed Nothing About Dragon Quest 12 – Is the Game Alive?

Summary

  • Dragon Quest Day 2025 passed without any reveal or update for Dragon Quest 12.
  • Series creator Yuji Horii confirmed in interviews that development is ongoing.
  • Fans continue waiting after the game’s original 2021 announcement and years of silence.

Dragon Quest Day Brings No News on Dragon Quest 12

Dragon Quest Day, celebrated every May 27, is usually when fans hope for big announcements from Square Enix about the beloved JRPG franchise. Many had fingers crossed that 2025 would finally deliver long-awaited updates on Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, the next mainline entry teased back in 2021.

But once again, there was no trailer, no screenshots, and no official reveal — just silence on the DQ12 front.

While fans are understandably frustrated, series creator Yuji Horii has spoken up to calm fears. In an interview, Horii confirmed that Dragon Quest 12 has not been cancelled and reassured the community that the team is still working hard behind the scenes. He apologised for the lack of updates but asked for continued patience, promising that the next instalment will live up to expectations.

Why Fans Are Growing Impatient

The wait for Dragon Quest 12 has been a long one. The game was first announced during the franchise’s 35th anniversary, but since then, official details have been scarce.

Previous statements hinted that the development team had faced hurdles, especially after the passing of iconic artist Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. In addition, shifts within Square Enix, including changes to the producer team, have made fans even more anxious about the project’s fate.

With only the logo and subtitle revealed so far, many hoped Dragon Quest Day 2025 would be the turning point. Instead, they were left with just the announcement of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake and no mention of DQ12’s progress.

Will We See DQ12 Soon?

While it’s disappointing that no new footage or release window was shared, Yuji Horii’s comments suggest the project is alive and moving forward, albeit quietly. It’s possible that Square Enix is waiting for a larger showcase or a dedicated event to deliver the big reveal that fans are craving.

Until then, supporters will need to hold onto Horii’s words and hope that the “next great work” arrives sooner rather than later.
