GameStop to Have Around 100 Nintendo Switch 2 Consoles at Launch

GameStop’s getting ready for the big Nintendo Switch 2 launch on June 5, 2025. They’re planning to have about 100 consoles in each store. That sounds great, but there’s a catch—games and accessories might be super hard to find at first.

So if you’re planning to grab a Switch 2 on launch day, you might not get all the stuff you want right away. It’s a good idea to plan ahead and know what to expect.

Let’s break down what this means for gamers and how to stay ready.

Console Availability at GameStop

GameStop is getting ready to stock about 100 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles at each store for the big launch on June 5, 2025. That might sound like a lot, but it may not be enough.

Jake Randall, a restock expert, pointed out on X (used to be Twitter) that even the PlayStation 5 had more stock later on, and those still sold out super fast. People are really excited for the Switch 2, so it could go quickly. It might be hard to grab one on launch day.

Reports also say there will be very few games and accessories available on day one, which could make the launch feel a bit limited for early buyers.

Anticipated Shortages in Games and Accessories

So, when the Nintendo Switch 2 launches, GameStop stores are likely going to have big shortages of both games and accessories.

Each store is expected to get about 100 consoles, but the accessories and physical copies of games will be “extremely limited.” This is especially worrying for popular games like Mario Kart World, which could be tough to find in physical form right after the release.

The shortage of important accessories, like Joy-Con controllers and Pro Controllers, might make it harder for early buyers to get the full gaming experience.

If you’re planning to grab the Switch 2, it’s a good idea to move fast and get both the console and accessories as soon as they’re available.

What Should We Expect?

Of course, take this info with a grain of salt. Even if it’s right now, things can change, especially with how shaky the economy is. Nintendo and GameStop haven’t said anything about this report, and we don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon. But if it does, we’ll update the story.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be expensive, and if the price goes up even more, it’s hard to say how many people will keep wanting it long term. But don’t forget, the original Nintendo Switch is on track to be the best-selling console ever, maybe even beating the PS2. So, there will probably be a lot of demand, especially at launch, unless they price it out of reach.

When the PS5 came out, there was crazy demand, and on top of that, production and shipping problems led to a shortage. Luckily, the Nintendo Switch 2 shouldn’t have those same issues, so it should be easier to find it, even long after launch.
