A leaked presentation, reportedly from Sega of America, may have unveiled the company’s Sonic plans for 2024. The highlight is a new mainline Sonic game set for release during the holiday season.
While Sonic Superstars is on the horizon, Sega is already looking ahead to the blue blur’s future. We’ve already heard about upcoming projects like the Knuckles spin-off series and the third movie. However, a leaked presentation shared by Redditor vilkam on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit could provide an even clearer view of what’s in store, especially for marketing partners.
The leaked Sega presentation appears to be a “brand and licensing update” for 2023, reviewing Sonic’s performance over the year. It’s quite sales-focused, even boasting Sonic as the “Most Popular Game Character in America!!!”
A purported roadmap for Sonic’s 2024 plans has emerged in this leaked PowerPoint and it outlines the following:
- Knuckles TV Spinoff and Season 3 of Sonic Prime in Q1 2024
- A New Mobile Game in Spring 2024
- Sonic SuperStars DLC, Animated Prologue for an Undisclosed Game, and the Unannounced Sonic Game in Holiday 2024.
- Sonic 3 in December 2024.
While much of the leaked Sega presentation covers Sonic’s performance in various marketing areas, the final slides hold intriguing information for fans. The “Content to Fuel Consumer Products” slide lists projects anticipated for 2024.
First up is the Knuckles TV show, which seems to have been pushed to 2024. It’s followed by confirmation of Sonic Prime’s third season in the early months of the year, which we already knew about. The presentation then hints at a new Sonic mobile game slated for next year, along with planned DLC for Superstars at a later date, which seems plausible.
The most notable part of the presentation is the claim of a “new Sonic game” scheduled for Holiday 2024, with a “prologue” expected a few months before the official release. While it’s not entirely clear what “prologue” means in this context, it could refer to the announcement date of the game. It appears unlikely that this new game is a spin-off or remake, given that Sonic Frontiers recently concluded its post-launch DLC.
Coupled with the upcoming movie and TV series, Sonic enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to.
While the legitimacy of this presentation remains uncertain, if accurate, 2024 promises to be a significant year for Sonic in both gaming and film. There are some aspects of the presentation that raise questions, such as the low image quality on some slides. Nevertheless, it would be quite an elaborate effort to fabricate a leak of this magnitude.
Sonic series Producer, Takashi Iizuka, recently expressed the intention to align game releases with other media projects, emphasizing a coordinated approach across games, movies, and TV shows. This strategic shift aims to synchronize the launch of Sonic-related content across various platforms.
