Obsidian Distances Itself from Outer Worlds 2’s Pricing
In a recent interview during the Summer Game Fest, Outer Worlds 2 director Brandon Adler opened up about the game’s price.
When asked why the game is set at $79.99, Adler made it clear that this decision comes from Xbox, not the developers at Obsidian. “We’re a game developer. We love to make games. We don’t set the prices for our games,” he said.
Adler added that he wishes everyone could play his game. However, he avoided going into personal opinions about the $80 tag. His main message was simple: pricing is handled by Xbox, and developers have little say in the matter.
“Like, personally, as a game developer, I wish everybody could play my game, because that’s what I want out of this whole thing. But for the reasons and so like, why the $79.99 price point, you’d have to honestly talk to the Xbox folks.”
Game Pass Remains the Go-To Option
With the price point set high, many fans say they’ll stick with playing Outer Worlds 2 through Game Pass. While $80 may be the standard now for some AAA games, it’s still a tough sell for players not subscribed to the service.
The game is set to launch on October 29, 2025, and expectations are rising. This is Obsidian’s second RPG release of the year after Avowed, and they’re hoping this title lands better with fans.
