Sony’s rumored PS5 Pro might not be launching in 2024, contrary to previous reports over the last year, suggests a reliable insider.

Recent rumors suggest that the PS5 Pro upgrade console may not be released this year. Insider Tom Henderson hinted at this on X (formerly Twitter) some hours ago.

When asked about a potential September announcement for the Pro model, Henderson replied, “If it releases this year!” Although this doesn’t confirm that the PS5 Pro won’t launch this year, Henderson’s comment has sparked quite a discussion. Especially because he was the one who previously stated that Sony is aiming for a holiday 2024 release for the Pro model.

Sony has only made indirect inferences about the upcoming console, but there have been so many leaks—including comprehensive technical specifications—that there doesn’t seem to be much question to its authenticity. But now, the source that first leaked information about the console has cast doubt on whether it will be released this year.

Tom Henderson has a strong reputation as a leaker, especially regarding Sony hardware. He was the first to reveal information about the PlayStation Portal. However, he hasn’t mentioned the PS5 Pro recently, and no other leaker has either. Instead, he has implied that a 2024 launch is no longer certain.

What Do We Know About PS5 Pro So Far?

In March 2023, Henderson mentioned that Sony was working on a PS5 hardware revision for release in late 2024. In July 2023, he talked about the codename for the PS5 Pro model – Trinity – with a planned release date in November 2024. Some months ago, Henderson again discussed the PS5 Pro model, saying the leaked specs were accurate and that Sony was still targeting a holiday 2024 launch for the enhanced PS5 console.

However, it’s uncertain whether Sony’s internal plans have changed. With hardware, delays can be due to manufacturing issues or changes in plans. Many have even argued that it seems too early in the PlayStation 5’s lifecycle for an upgrade.

So, it is possible that Sony might want to delay the PS5 Pro’s release to improve its development, but this risks clashing with the release of the Switch 2 next year. It’s also worth noting that PlayStation has had a quiet year so far and might not feel the need to release the Pro alongside something like Astro Bot when it could wait for bigger exclusives in 2025.

A more critical factor for Sony might be the launch of GTA 6. Rumors suggest that the PS5 Pro will be positioned as the best way to play the game, possibly leading to a delay in the console’s release to align with GTA 6’s launch, which isn’t expected until autumn 2025.

For now, this is all speculation, as PlayStation hasn’t officially confirmed the PS5 Pro or hinted at its impending announcement or release.
