PS5 Pro Specs Have Leaked With Release Window Set For Holiday 2024

Three years after the PS4 was first released, in 2016, the PS4 Pro was released. Now given that the PS5 was released in November 2020, the PS5 Pro could be released quite soon. Moreover, every now and then, a lot of leaks and rumors about the PS5 Pro’s features surface online but we now also have a more reliable leak that has even received some partial confirmation.

According to YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead, he has access to a technical overview sheet for the PS5 Pro, codenamed Trinity, and Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson has further corroborated the reports claiming the leaked PS5 Pro specs are true and that the console will launch around Holiday 2024.

UPDATE: 17/03/24

Recently, there was a significant PlayStation 5 Pro leak that disclosed several specifications as well as the device’s name, Project Trinity. Now, Tom Henderson has revealed further specs, which include information about the release window, audio, system memory, CPU, and GPU.

Rumors of improved audio performance, quicker memory operating at 576 GB/s (a 28 percent increase over the PS5), and a new “High CPU Frequency Mode” that increases performance by 10% above the conventional PS5 are among the other new features.

The deatiled PS5 Pro Specs are as follows:

System Memory

  • Standard PlayStation 5 – 448 GB/s (14 GT/s)
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – 576 GB/s (18GT/s) – A 28% increase over the standard console.
  • Also outlined is that the PlayStation 5 Pro’s system memory is more efficient than the standard console, so the bandwidth gain may increase by over 28%.

CPU

  • The CPU is identical to the standard PlayStation 5, however, the Pro has a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode”, which takes the CPU to 3.85GHz – A 10% increase over the standard console.
  • In High CPU Frequency Mode, more power is allocated to the CPU and will downclock the GPU by around 1.5%, resulting in roughly 1% lower GPU performance.

Audio

  • The ACV in the PlayStation 5 Pro runs at a higher clock speed over the standard PlayStation 5, resulting in the ACM library having 35% more performance.
  • More convolution reverbs can be processed
  • More FFT or IFFT can be processed

GPU (Previously revealed)

  • Rendering 45% faster than PS5
  • 2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)
  • 33.5 Teraflops
  • PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution
  • Support for resolutions up to 8K is planned for future SDK version
  • Custom machine learning architecture
  • AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8 bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point

Henderson claims that when the ps5 Pro launches in the fall of 2024, it will feature a removable disc drive that operates on SKD 9.00, just like the recently updated PS5.

ORIGINAL STORY

PS5 Pro Specs Leaks

The long-rumored codename for the PS5 Pro, “Trinity,” is confirmed by the docs and the information indicates that Sony intends to replace any prior antialiasing techniques with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Moreover, the next PlayStation 5 Pro may get a major graphical push, according to leaked docs. With 16-bit floating-point calculations, the PS5 Pro can achieve 67 teraflops, which is equivalent to about 33.5 teraflops for single-precision computing. This corresponds to a possible rendering speed boost of 45% in comparison to the PS5 standard (10.28 teraflops).

Below is a rundown of all the leaked PS5 Pro specifications and features:

  • Rendering 45% faster than PS5
  • 2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)
  • 33.5 Teraflops
  • PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/anti-aliasing solution
  • Support for resolutions up to 8K planned for future SDK version
  • Custom machine learning architecture
  • AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point

To put it more simply, the PS5 Pro is anticipated to have a significant performance increase over the PS5, along with an obvious upgrade in graphics and ray tracing capabilities.

PS5 Pro Release Date and Price

Henderson first revealed last year that a PS5 Pro was in the works, with a November 2024 release window. Now it appears that Sony might be on track to meet the demanding deadline as Henderson now claims that test kits, which will be exact replicas of the final product, will be made accessible starting in spring 2024. First-party studios have had access to Devkits since September 2023, while third-party developers have had them since January 2024.

Well, for now, the PlayStation 5 Pro is reportedly targeting a holiday 2024 release date, but given the dearth of first-party games on the PlayStation 5 this year, the projected release date may change.

In terms of pricing, the PS4 Pro was priced at $399 / £349 at launch, which was the same as the original PS4. Sony then increased the price of the PS5 lately, citing the rise in worldwide inflation as the reason. Now the PS5 is available for £479.99, €549.99, or AU$799.95, and if Sony adopts the same approach as it did for the PS4 Pro, the PS5 Pro may be available for the same pricing, that is, £479.99, €549.99.

In the tech and gaming industries, YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead has not always been a trustworthy source, but Tom Henderson is well-known and widely trusted. Given that Henderson goes on to say that he has verified the reported specifications through his sources, it is quite likely that the PlayStation 5 Pro—which sports a significant increase in specifications—is on the horizon.

Well, the PSSR is rumored to leverage PlayStation machine learning for similar image upscaling to AMD’s FSR or Nvidia’s DLSS and this might help enhance ray tracing performance on this suspected PS5 Pro console, and it may well feature upscaling to 8K resolutions in future releases.

However, since there is still some time before the PS5 Pro releases, there is a possibility that the leaked specs may change.
