A newly leaked message from a supposed developer claims that Ubisoft has been hard at work on Rainbow Six Siege 2 for more than four years. The message alleges that the sequel has got a significant portion of staff from those who were working on the original game.

According to the leaker, 90% of the team working on the R6 game has just been re-assigned to a different project. This could be one of the reasons why the recent Siege updates have been accused of not living up to previous new content.

The report says work on the coming sequel is nearly complete, and this new game has been created using the Snowdrop engine which was also used on Ubisoft’s XDefiant. There were many issues with the code for the original game, and hence this new engine is being used. It has also been claimed that the sequel will have an in-house anti-cheat system, something that fans of the series are all too familiar with.

Despite the rumors and ongoing development of the sequel, Rainbow Six Siege continues to receive updates and new content under its Year 9 plan. The game still maintains a strong player base, averaging over 50,000 players daily. But the sequel would be a key step forward for the franchise, which has an aging technology and whose fans’ are constantly calling out for something new.

Based on the leak, Rainbow Six 2 was originally supposed to be announced during the Six Invitational this year in February, but due to a few issues, it has been delayed until sometime next year, maybe the Six Invitational 2025 in Boston. This event will be the last Rainbow Six Siege Esports event before the franchise moves to the new game, similar to how Valve moved from CS:GO to CS2.

However, it is crucial to note that not everything has been good for Ubisoft. The company has faced a lot of criticism recently, from controversies around Assassin’s Creed Shadows due to its pricing strategies. Hence, the anticipation for Rainbow Six Siege 2 is high, with many hoping it will fix the problems of the original game. But there are also concerns about Ubisoft’s approach to monetizing its games, seen by some as greedy, and these worries might extend to the sequel.

Well, all of these are leaks and rumors for now, and we will have to wait for official announcements to know how much truth these leaks hold.
