According to analysts, Nintendo is preparing to launch the Nintendo Switch 2, also known as the successor to the original model, this year, and it will have an 8-inch LCD screen.
Nintendo is apparently getting ready to unveil its next console, tentatively referred to as Nintendo Switch 2, with an anticipated 8-inch LCD screen, as suggested by analyst Hiroshi Hayase from Omida.
According to Hayase, this forthcoming console is expected to be the driving force behind a twofold increase in shipments of ‘amusement displays’ in 2024. Hayase suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be launched this year and will have an 8-inch LCD screen. If the rumored 8-inch screen holds true, it would signify Nintendo’s largest display for a gaming console, surpassing the 6.2-inch LCD screen on the standard Switch and the 7-inch OLED screen on the Switch OLED.
Hayase is an analyst who specializes in small and medium-sized displays. He bases her annual projections on shipments of these displays on checks she makes with supply chain partners. Because of this, Hayase is in a good position to fully understand the display market, which gives his argument more weight.
Hayase’s claim regarding Nintendo’s impact on display shipments aligns with Sharp Corp.’s statement from the previous year, where the LCD display supplier, having collaborated with Nintendo previously, mentioned its involvement with an upcoming gaming console project.
Additionally, there are indications that the new Switch 2 might opt for an LCD screen instead of a more premium OLED to manage costs, especially considering the expanded storage requirements for higher-quality games.
The CEO of Tokyo-based game industry consulting Kantan Games, Dr. Serkan Toto, has also projected that the new Switch 2 may launch for $400, which is $100 more than the price at which the Switch debuted. Toto also suggests that game prices for this console could rise to match the $70 pricing seen with the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
While no further details about the console are currently available, these insights come from reputable sources within the industry.
