Sony has shipped a staggering 54.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles worldwide since its launch in 2020.
In Q3 FY23 alone, Sony shipped 8.2 million consoles, marking a year-on-year increase of more than 1.1 million units.
More than 89 million games were sold across the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 platforms in Q3 FY23.
Sony continues to dominate this generation of gaming with the PlayStation 5, reporting a record quarterly profit in its gaming arm and soaring to total revenue in the ‘Game & Network Services Segment’ of $9.5 billion.
For Q4 FY23, sales are expected to be lower than the November forecast, mainly due to an expected decrease in hardware sales, partially offset by the impact of foreign exchange rates and an expected increase in sales of non-first-party titles including add-on content.
Interestingly, the numbers suggest that plenty of sales are still occurring on the PlayStation 4 platform, which is gradually becoming a legacy console in the overwhelmingly successful streak of the PlayStation 5.
