At CES 2024, Sony Honda Mobility drove its new Honda Afeela EV onstage using a PS5 DualSense controller, stunning viewers with the car’s unique features and hefty AI integration
The ability to drive Afeela with a PS5 DualSense is not one of the planned features. It was used as a demonstration to showcase the car’s features and compatibility with gaming media.
The remote driving demo was for the purpose of the tech showcase only. COO Izumi Kawanishi stated, “We believe that software can define new function and value. We want to redefine the relationship between people and mobility.”
The showcase caused a stir within the gaming scene, leading to many viewers discussing the electric vehicle. Some users made dark jokes comparing the event to a recent incident where a submarine was directed by a controller and later imploded.
Despite the jokes, many were impressed by the Afeela EV’s cutting-edge features related to gaming. The CES 2024 Sony event also showed possible theme customization options for the car’s displays, including Fortnite and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Games can also be streamed on the dashboard.
A virtual model for the shown prototype of the car is headed for Gran Turismo 7 later this year. It will arrive in one of the updates, but more details remain unknown.
