Square Enix Director Estimates a 20-Year Timeline for a Final Fantasy 6 Remake

Square Enix director Yoshinori Kitase revealed that a Final Fantasy 6 remake would take about 20 years to complete.

Kitase receives a lot of requests from fans regarding a Final Fantasy 6 remake.

Kitase mentioned that he has been involved with the remake of Final Fantasy 7 (Rebirth) for about 10 years and a remake of Final Fantasy 6 would take more than twice as much time.

Kitase talked about the vast amount of content and characters in Final Fantasy 6, but he can’t confirm a remake at this time.

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, said that he was inspired by Final Fantasy 6 more than Final Fantasy 7 to become a game creator.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch on February 29, 2024, for the PlayStation 5. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 6, released in 1994 for the Super NES, was also rereleased on Game Boy Advance and PlayStation and is available to play on Nintendo Switch.
