Super Mario Bros. Wonder made its debut on October 20 for Nintendo Switch and it quickly secured the spot as the third-largest physical launch for a Mario platform game, according to GamesIndustry, trailing behind only Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
Currently, Wonder holds the title of being the fifth biggest boxed game release of the year. It was recently surpassed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sales, a title that enjoyed monumental success, selling over 2.5 million copies and becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game.
While Nintendo has yet to disclose the statistics for North America or Japan, the worldwide sales performance of Super Mario Wonder, in comparison to this new European milestone, remains uncertain.
We first got an inkling of the game’s performance from the latest UK weekly chart, where it claimed the second spot (following Marvel’s Spider-Man 2) and was second only to the previous releases of Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D All-Stars. However, it’s worth noting that this chart only accounted for physical sales at retail. Given the substantial surge in digital sales, it’s quite likely that Wonder might have surpassed them when considering combined sales.
