Konami’s Team Silent released the highly acclaimed horror game Silent Hill 2 years ago. Then a remake was announced a long time back, and a new possible “slip up” from Konami revealed that this Silent Hill 2 Remake is still very much in the works along with other “remakes”.
Silent Hill 2 with other remakes accidentally confirmed by Konami earnings results
Initially, Konami’s announcement last year indicated only one remake was in progress. However, thanks to VGC, we’re now learning that Konami may have accidentally hinted at multiple remakes in the works.
Today, we received Konami’s financial report, which mentioned ongoing developments for fresh additions to the Silent Hill series. Interestingly, the statement also referenced remakes, even though the sole confirmed remake in the works was Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team.
The report stated: “As for ongoing efforts, we are working diligently on Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, which faithfully recreates the story, characters, and game design of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most beloved entries in the Metal Gear series, and updates its graphical style to modern graphics for the current generation, as well as remakes and completely new entries in the Silent Hill series, which gained popularity as a psychological horror game.”
While this statement might have been a slip-up, it raises the possibility of more than one remake being developed.
Silent Hill fans have longed for Konami to remake the franchise, however, after the fallout with Hideo Kojima, the entire series was put on indefinite hold. It took several years, but last year, Konami revealed that Silent Hill was poised for a comeback. Various projects were in the pipeline too, including a Silent Hill 2 Remake.
Unfortunately, no further details were provided. Hence, it remains unclear whether there are additional Silent Hill games from Team Silent undergoing remakes, or if this pertains to some of the western releases that followed Team Silent’s dissolution. Of course, this could all be a misunderstanding from Konami, and only one remake is currently in progress.
Nevertheless, we do know that the Bloober Team plans to unveil this remake for both PC and PlayStation 5 platforms.
Bloober Team, known for titles like Layers of Fear and The Medium, is tasked with remaking Silent Hill 2. The studio sees this as an opportunity to solidify its status in the horror genre. Bloober Team aims to demonstrate its capacity for creating substantial horror games, potentially competing with major studios like Capcom. The release date for the Silent Hill 2 remake remains uncertain, possibly extending into 2024, and details on how closely the remake adheres to the original are yet to be revealed.
