A recent report claims that a secret reveal of the PS5 version of MediEvil 2 Remake will take place next month, coinciding with the much-rumored PlayStation Showcase/Direct.
Speculation about the MediEvil 2 Remake has been brewing since 2020 because of the successful remake of the franchise’s first installment. And now, according to an “insider” who previously revealed the existence of the Gravity Rush 2 PS5 remaster, the MediEvil 2 Remake is indeed under development and may arrive sooner than anticipated.
The leak, first noted by Twisted Voxel, stems from an anonymous Discord user known as “Orangee,” who claims to be a playtester. According to Orangee, the MediEvil 2 remake is slated for a May 2024 release, sparking rumors that it might drop without any prior announcement during the speculated PlayStation Showcase event.
He further goes on to claim that development on the remake has been in the works since 2021, with Other Ocean controlling the development. Interestingly, the leaker also suggests that the upgraded title will make a surprise debut shortly after its reveal in May.
As for the platforms, Orangee didn’t disclose which platforms the MediEvil 2 Remake will release on, but PS5 is a safe bet if it’s indeed in the works. However, it’s important to approach this information with caution. While the game may be teased at the event, its actual release might occur later.
Initially, the rumors of a MediEvil 2 remake surfaced in February 2020 following cryptic tweets from the series’ composer. However, Other Ocean straightforwardly denied being involved in the initiative the next month.
Well, if the current rumor holds water, it would come as a bit of a surprise, considering the lukewarm reception of the 2019 remake, which failed to make a significant splash in terms of sales or critical acclaim, scoring a modest 67 on Metacritic. Additionally, the second game in the series lacks the same level of popularity as its predecessor.
As of now, PlayStation has yet to confirm a new State of Play or PlayStation Showcase event. Because of this, it is best to treat this information as merely a rumor that might or might not come true.
