The latest hint from a trusted insider suggests that a new Doom game might be among the major announcements at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase.
Employees and fans were taken aback by Microsoft’s most recent wave of layoffs, and to make matters worse, Xbox recently announced that four of its gaming studios in Bethesda would be closing. But a ray of hope for Microsoft comes from its upcoming Xbox Games Showcase as it presents the ideal chance for the company to regain the trust of the public.
There are several rumours surrounding the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase and one significant rumor suggests that a new Doom game from ID Software could be unveiled next month during this event. This speculation stems from a teaser by the reliable Tom Warren.
Though Warren did not state anything clearly, his report on the Xbox turmoil, published on The Verge, hinted at Microsoft’s optimism regarding potential new announcements. He stated:
"Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the Doom around Xbox."
Take note of how Tom capitalized and italicized the word “Doom,” hinting at the journalist’s intention.
There is currently no official word on the next Doom game from either Microsoft or Bethesda. However, leaked documents did mention “Doom Year Zero” in Bethesda’s roadmap. But again, it’s worth noting that leaked files can be outdated, and some listed projects may have been canceled, so the next Doom game might not necessarily carry the title “Year Zero.”
Well, the first-person shooter genre has been associated with Doom for many years. Even though the series has experimented with different mediums, Doom is primarily recognized for its video game production, having made numerous titles that rank among the greatest ever. Hence, given the series’ rich history, anticipation for the new Doom game is understandably high.
Also, the Xbox Wire post revealed that the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase is Microsoft’s “first Showcase featuring games from our portfolio of studios across Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios, in addition to titles from our third-party partners.” Therefore, an announcement about Doom from Bethesda doesn’t sound out of place.
In addition to the new Doom game, insiders suggest that Xbox has an impressive lineup of blockbuster titles in store, including Call of Duty, Gears 6, and State of Decay 3. However, we will have to wait till June 9, 10 a.m. PT to be sure of anything.
