The Russo brothers have shared that they are open to developing video games linked to their Avengers movies, raising excitement about potential gaming adaptations.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind some of the most successful Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, have expressed interest in working on video games connected to their Avengers movies. With their production company, AGBO, already exploring interactive storytelling, this could mean a major shift in how Marvel stories are told, giving players the chance to experience their favorite superhero moments in an entirely new way.
The Russo Brothers and Their Marvel Legacy
The Russo brothers played a huge role in shaping the MCU, directing major films that defined Marvel’s storytelling. Their work on Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought a darker, more grounded tone to the superhero genre. Captain America: Civil War expanded on that, creating internal conflict between the Avengers. However, their biggest impact came with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, two films that pulled together the entire Marvel universe into an epic battle against Thanos. These movies became box office giants, with Endgame becoming one of the highest-grossing films in history.
With their upcoming projects, including Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the Russos could be looking at expanding their storytelling beyond films and into gaming.
In a recent interview, Joe Russo shared that AGBO has been experimenting with interactive storytelling, and when asked if they would consider making a game tied to their Avengers films, he responded that they would “definitely be open to it.”
“Right now, what we’re doing is creating new IP. At AGBO, we want to tell new stories. We want to tell new stories with new characters and new worlds that people haven’t seen before. So Anthony and I and Donald are working together to build out new worlds. And we have three that we’re currently working on that the intention is, for every world we build to have the scale and depth of a “Star Wars” universe, but in a different genre. And then we’ll build materials around those new worlds. We’ll tell stories in different ways using different media in those worlds,” he continue.

A Future for Avengers Video Games?
AGBO has already taken steps toward blending movies and games, having worked on a Netflix mobile game based on their film The Electric State. Additionally, they have partnered with Donald Mustard, the co-creator of Fortnite, to explore how linear storytelling can be merged with interactive experiences.
This means the Russos are not just casually interested in games—they are actively looking at how to evolve storytelling in new formats. If the Russo brothers created an Avengers game, it would likely be very different from previous Marvel games.
Instead of a simple beat-em-up, the game could focus more on character-driven storytelling, choices that impact the narrative, and immersive gameplay.
Now, while the idea of a Russo-directed Marvel game sounds exciting, making it a reality comes with its own challenges. One of the biggest issues is ensuring the game matches the movies’ story while still feeling like its own experience. The game would need to offer something new, rather than just recreating scenes from the films.
Additionally, the past failures of Marvel games—like Marvel’s Avengers (2020), which was heavily criticized—show that fans have high expectations. If the Russo brothers were to work on a game, they would need to ensure that it delivers on both gameplay and storytelling in a way that matches the epic feel of their movies.
Right now, there’s no official confirmation that the Russo brothers will develop an Avengers game, but their openness to the idea makes it a real possibility.
