Edgerunners Sequel Teased for Anime Expo 2025
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners might finally be getting a sequel. The anime’s official account has teased a special reveal for Anime Expo 2025, which takes place from July 3 to 6 in Los Angeles. They mentioned that “the next datadrop’s almost here,” hinting at something major coming soon.
While nothing is confirmed yet, this message has fans buzzing about a potential continuation of the anime story set in Night City.
Return to Night City Confirmed
Back in September 2024, a short teaser from Netflix and CD Projekt Red simply said “Return to Night City.” A few months later, the CFO of CD Projekt Red confirmed that a new animated project based on the Cyberpunk universe is in the works for Netflix.
Now, with the teaser about a “datadrop” at Anime Expo, it looks like the reveal could be just around the corner.
The first season ended with David’s tragic death, leaving Lucy alone. Since Lucy survived and reached her dream of going to the moon, she could be the focus of the sequel. Or, we could see a totally new cast from the endless possibilities within Night City.
It’s also unclear if Studio TRIGGER will return to animate the sequel, but fans are hopeful.
Besides the anime, CD Projekt Red is also working on a full video game sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. However, that game is still in pre-production and could take another 4–5 years. The anime sequel could help bridge the gap, bringing players and viewers back to the gritty streets of Night City in the meantime.
