Recent leaks suggest that the Fable Reboot could potentially be released in 2025, while Contraband is aiming for a 2024 release window.
We haven’t heard any fresh news regarding Playground Games’ next title in the fantasy series, Fable Reboot, in a while. One of the first games to be unveiled for the Xbox Series S/X was the Fable reboot, which was presented during the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase. Since then, information has been scarce. However, there’s some optimism as a fairly trustworthy insider now states that it will be released in 2025.
According to NatetheHate, Fable reboot is aiming for a release window of next year, though he does acknowledge that this information dates back to last year. Therefore, things might have been affected since then.
While specific details are not provided by NatetheHate, Anastasia Sharples, Playground Games’ lead recruiter, shared on her LinkedIn that they made “over 100 hires in 2023.” This positive hiring trend suggests that the studio has likely shifted into full production mode for the Fable reboot.
Well, Fable has been in the development pipeline for numerous years, yet official details were limited for a longer period. The situation changed in March 2022 when former Principal Game Designer Juan Fernández de Simón disclosed that Playground’s “frugal” approach and lack of experience with the genre contributed to the project’s slow pace of development. Afterward, Andy Robinson stated in 2023 that the game was still in the early stages of development.
Playground did, however, eventually showcase the game’s performance on the Xbox Series S|X at the Xbox Games Showcase held last year, and they enlisted Baldur’s Gate 3 producer Ryan Clark to join the team.
If the information provided by NatetheHate is accurate, Playground may be trying to release Fable Reboot in late 2025. The leaker also noted that Contraband (announced in June 2021) might see the light of day in 2024. However, it’s essential to note that he expressed some skepticism about this particular piece of information.
As for credibility, NatetheHate has a track record of providing both accurate and inaccurate details. In the past, they provided inaccurate Xbox information such as the Starfield on PS5 prediction (which Xbox later refuted). However, the source has been accurate too with statements about Xbox exclusivity and the PS5 release of specific games. Their accuracy has been mixed, notably regarding the rumored “Nintendo Switch Pro.” Therefore, it is suggested to not completely rely on this information. Also, game development is subject to changes, thus they may not stay the same way in the future.
Hence, as with any rumor, it’s advisable to approach the 2025 release date of Fable Reboot with a grain of salt.
