Marvel’s Blade which is currently being developed by Arkane Lyon, known for their highly acclaimed titles like Dishonored and Deathloop, was recently announced at The Game Awards 2023. Following its announcement, Arkane has released new Marvel’s Blade concept art that provides a glimpse into the artistic direction chosen by the developer.
Marvel’s Blade Concept Art Revealed: Stylish visuals hints at Xbox exclusivity
Official Marvel’s Blade concept art has been shared by Arkane’s art and co-creative director, Sebastien Mitton, in a recent tweet. They unveiled three different images that show various parts of the city. Along with providing a glimpse at the development process, this post also serves as a call for artists to join the development team.
Sebastien Mitton, the co-creative director at Arkane Lyon, expressed gratitude for the fans and said, “Your excitement following Marvel’s Blade reveal means the world to us. Here’s some exclusive eye candy from our Art heroes at Lyon. Want to team up? Check out Arkane Lyon’s open positions as we’re looking for talents in various disciplines.”
The first image displays a cityscape that exudes a stark and rugged atmosphere, with streets ablaze, evoking a sense of urgency and desperation.
Another image depicts Blade investigating a club, a timeless scene that fans of the first movie adaption would recognize, possibly hinting at potential stealth gameplay mechanics.
Vampires can be seen roaming freely on public transit in the third photograph. This not only demonstrates some action but also serves to emphasize further how chaotic the city is.
Since all the images of Marvel’s Blade concept art are highly stylized, some fans were understandably alarmed by some of the more dramatic concepts. It seems to be reasonably sized, with a good number of different areas. It does, however, appear ambitious and innovative.
Overall, these visuals also provide fans with a better understanding of the vastness of the city. Arkane appears to strike a balance between an expansive scale and gritty, immersive ideas. Unlike previous big-screen adaptations set in New York City, the game seems to focus on Blade/Eric Brooks’ global adventures. This departure offers a refreshing take on Blade’s character, with vibrant settings that have fans eagerly anticipating the prospect of vampire battles in a nightclub setting.
The excitement surrounding Marvel’s Blade persists, primarily linked to its potential status as an Xbox-exclusive title, indirectly hinted at by Microsoft.
