According to an insider, there is a “active project” for a new Banjo Kazooie game, an Xbox title. However, as the project was supposedly only given the go-ahead in early 2022, it is probably still several years off.
It looks like a new Banjo Kazooie game may be coming soon, after years of wishful thinking. On the ResetEra forums, renowned insider NateDrake claims that Microsoft is working on a Banjo Kazooie game. Other than mentioning that the project wasn’t formally approved until “last year,” he didn’t provide many details.
“It’s still an active project, but it didn’t get the green light until early last year. There is a lot to do and development can change a lot (abandoned ideas, internal reboots, etc.),” said Nate.
Although the accuracy of this report has not yet been confirmed, the insider’s skills has previously proven true, as seen by the announcements of a new F-Zero game (F-Zero 99) and a new Arkane Lyon game (Blade) at The Game Awards.
Also the fact that Xbox CEO Phil Spencer said earlier this month that he was aware of the intense desire among fans for the series further supports the rumor that a new Banjo Kazooie game may be in the works at some point.
“You’ve seen from our history that we haven’t touched every franchise that people would love us to touch — Banjo fans, I hear you. But it is true that, when we find the right team, and the right opportunity, I love going back to revisit stories and characters that we’ve seen previously,” said Spencer.
With regards to the developer, it’s unlikely that Rare will be behind the development of the new Kazooie game as they are busy with Sea of Thieves and Everwild, and since Rare is not expected to be handling the new Banjo Kazooie game, it is unclear which studio is in charge of the project’s development, which appears to be in its early stages. As usual, this is only a rumor, so please take it with a grain of salt.
