Next God of War Might Be Heading to Ancient Egypt – New Report

The “God of War” games are super popular because of their awesome stories and gameplay. After wrapping up the Norse saga with ‘God of War: Ragnarok’ in 2022, fans can’t wait to see what’s next.

Now, there’s talk that the next game might dive into Egyptian mythology, bringing Kratos face-to-face with a whole new group of gods. If this is true, it could be a game-changer for the series.  Let’s dig into what this might mean for the next God of War game and why fans can’t wait.

Egyptian Mythology in Next God of War Game?

A report from The Game Post suggests that Sony is working on a new God of War game set in Egyptian mythology.

This information comes from Daniel Richtman, a known insider, who shared it on his Patreon.

Richtman mentioned that Sony is casting Middle Eastern actors for a big, unannounced game, and he believes this game is likely the next God of War that will explore Egyptian mythology.

He said, “Sony is casting Middle Eastern actors for an unknown AAA game, which is likely to be the next God of War focused on Egyptian mythology.”

How Egyptian Mythology Was Considered for God of War?

The God of War series has always explored different mythologies. In the 2018 game, they chose Norse mythology, bringing us a whole new set of gods and stories. But did you know the studio had other ideas for where the game could go?

In the “Making Of” God of War (2018) documentary, Cory Barlog, the game’s creative director, shared that they actually thought about setting the game in Egyptian mythology first. They ended up choosing Norse, but it seems like Egypt’s mythology has always been on their mind.

Even though God of War (2018) mostly focuses on Norse mythology, you can still spot a few Egyptian touches. Inside Tyr’s Temple, players can find things like a scarab, a pharaoh’s crown, and even the crook and flail, which are linked to Osiris. These items make you think that Tyr, the Norse god of war, might have crossed paths with Egyptian culture at some point.

The game even drops a few clues that there are other mythologies out there. For example, Mimir calls Egypt “the River Empire” and says it was both really old and super advanced in terms of technology.

So, looks like the 2018 game stuck with Norse mythology, but the developers were also thinking about using Egyptian mythology. Now, there are rumors about a new God of War game set in Egypt, so it seems like the series might head back to explore that ancient world.

But remember, Sony hasn’t officially said anything about the rumor yet, so it’s best not to get your hopes up. This news came out after a God of War live-service game, being worked on by Bluepoint Games, was cancelled after two years of development. On the bright side, there’s still the God of War TV show coming soon on Amazon Prime, which is pretty cool. So, let’s see what comes out officially.
