ORIGINAL STORY

On Jan 29th, PlayStation officially announced the State of Play 2024 event, stating, “Join us January 31 for 40 minutes covering 15+ games, including Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin.” Players will get in-depth looks at Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade in addition to many other updates on other games that will be released in 2024 and later on the PS5 and PS VR2. However, a few titles have already been leaked.

The speculation arises from a tweet by XboxEra co-founder and gaming insider @Shpeshal_Nick, who dropped cryptic hints about the content of the next State of Play. According to the tweet, we will get an exciting mix of new game announcements and reveals and the event will air sometime on January 31. He said, “On the 31st (roughly), Ronins will Rise, we’ll die stranded, have a rebirth and Kojima will fulfil his dream. Sonic will live in the shadow of his generation while the hills will remain silent until the dawn when you’ll need to catch the metro. Just don’t be a Judas about it.”

After deciphering the tweet, Twitter user Rand_al_Thor_19 suggested that the upcoming State of Play 2024 would probably feature the following games:

  • Death Stranding 2
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Sonic Generations Remaster
  • Silent Hill 2
  • New Metro game
  • Judas

While there’s no official confirmation at this point, past experiences suggest that leaks often originate from State of Play videos uploaded to YouTube as over the past few years, this has been the source of several high-profile game leaks, such as the GTA 6 reveal trailer.

Recent weeks have been buzzing with rumors about an upcoming State of Play from PlayStation. Some speculations revolve around the possibility of showcasing the Death Stranding movie alongside Death Stranding 2. Additionally, there’s anticipation for a potential Until Dawn remaster unveiling during the next State of Play on January 31, coinciding with the release of a new Until Dawn movie adaptation.

Among all the rumored titles, the highlight is the mention of a new Metro game and a remaster of Sonic Generations.

While there’s no official confirmation about a Sonic Generations remaster from SEGA, revisiting one of Sonic’s iconic adventures aligns with the ongoing popularity of the franchise, especially with Sonic the Hedgehog 3. On the other hand, we have the next Metro game. Rumors from last year suggested that 4A Games had already finished work on its new title, but details have been scarce since then. The Metro franchise has a reputation for pushing graphical boundaries, and fans are eager to see if the upcoming title lives up to expectations.

The last State of Play event in September primarily focused on indie titles, smaller PS5 games, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Despite the excitement surrounding Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, a lot of PlayStation fans were still curious about the upcoming titles that would be available until 2024. Now, this potential new State of Play 2024 presentation could provide the clarity fans seek regarding major PS5 titles in 2024.

It’s important to note that Sony has not officially confirmed the details of the next State of Play. However, the persistent rumors align with the possibility of a State of Play presentation either on January 31 or shortly thereafter.
