NieR Automata Sequel has been teased once again by Yoko Taro, the series creator know for dropping puzzlng hints about the next NieR game.
NieR: Automata, the action role-playing game that took the gaming world by storm in 2017, recently celebrated its seventh anniversary. Now, fans are eagerly anticipating news about a potential sequel, and there are hints from none other than Yoko Taro, the series creator.
SanTheSly, a member of Reset Era, recently attended the NieR concert in London and shared some fascinating insights from the event. They claim that as the event was coming to an end, series creator Yoko Taro appeared on stage to thank the audience. During his appearance, Taro mentioned that the Square Enix president was among the audience members. He playfully encouraged the crowd to applaud the loudest of the evening if they wanted a sequel to NieR: Automata.
According to SanTheSly, the hall responded with a burst of claps, cheers, and yells right away. While it’s unclear whether Yoko Taro was entirely serious about the situation, the message was loud and clear – fans are eager for a sequel. Additionally, the word “REPENT” was repeatedly displayed as part of the dialogue during a story segment, claims SanTheSly. The concert’s last section was written as “R3PENT,” with the “3” implying that a third NieR series installment might already be in development.
Perhaps a NieR: Automata sequel will actually happen in the future now that Yosuke Matsuda, the president of Square Enix, and Yoko Taro, the representative director, are aware of how much the fans are looking forward to it. Also, this isn’t the first time there have been hints about a NieR: Automata sequel.
Back in November 2023, Yosuke Saito, the NieR series producer, confirmed that new Nier games were in the works as long as Yoko Taro was involved. Saito stated in an interview that while a new NieR game was confirmed as long as “[director] Yoko Taro is alive”, the duo was concurrently working on a separate project. Saito teased that more information about this undisclosed game would be revealed in the coming year. This revelation came during a presentation at the Korean video game show G-STAR 2023.
Also, in January 2023, Yoko Taro himself teased the possibility of a new NieR game. During the closing of the History of NieR video, he humorously mentioned that he would do “anything for money” and suggested that the next NieR game could be released either tomorrow or 35 years from now. When asked about his role in current projects, Yoko mentioned that he’s taking a less hands-on approach, believing that the games might benefit from his loose association.
Overall, considering the immense popularity of NieR games, it’s reasonable to assume that Square Enix would want a NieR: Automata sequel sooner rather than later. However, fans will have to patiently wait for further updates on the potential release of NieR: Automata sequel.
