The upcoming RTX 50 series GPUs, codenamed “Blackwell,” might soon join Intel’s Arrow Lake CPU platform. Even before Nvidia’s RTX 4080 Super hits the market, the rumor mill is buzzing about the RTX 5000 “Blackwell” lineup. Now, insider sources from “Moore’s Law is Dead” suggest a potential launch of the RTX 5000 series chips in Q4 2024.

In a recent video by Moore’s Law is Dead, Tom’s revealed that NVIDIA’s next-generation GeForce RTX 50 series “Blackwell” GPUs will be “ready for launch” in Q4 2024—that is, if NVIDIA wants to. The decision hinges on the sales performance of the upcoming GeForce RTX 40 “Ada Lovelace” GPUs and the competitive landscape with AMD’s next-gen RDNA 4 GPU architecture.

According to an unnamed source, “Blackwell (RTX 5000) is being prepared to be ready to launch in Q4 2024 if we want it to. Whether or not we do depends on how Ada (RTX 4000) sales are doing, and how competitive we believe RDNA 4 (RX 8000) will be during the holiday shopping season. But no matter what, we are currently planning to make a big deal about RTX 5000 efficiency at CES 2025. So, either way, we will be launching next gen by the start of 2025.”

Although the exact dates are still unknown, we may see a switch to the next generation in late 2024 if Nvidia’s RTX 4000 series upgrade, which is anticipated during CES 2024, doesn’t go as planned. Reports suggest, that with TSMC’s upgraded 3nm production node, NVIDIA is expected to make a “big deal” about the efficiency of the GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. Players can anticipate significant power savings, increased clock speeds, and a significant performance boost over the GPUs in the current generation of the RTX 40 series.

Regarding performance, leaked details suggest that while Blackwell’s performance upgrade won’t be as groundbreaking as the jump from RTX 3000 to 4000, the RTX 5090 could potentially showcase a more significant leap, considering the RTX 4090’s limited release as a cut-down card. However, these advancements might be influenced by AMD’s potential threat, prompting Nvidia to respond with a faster RTX 4090 or a similar strategy to the 3090 Ti launch.

Tom’s source said, “As for performance, Blackwell’s rasterization uplift over Ada will not be as impressive as Ampere to Ada. However, the RTX 4090 was cut down by more than 10%, so it’s plausible we could make the 5090″feel” like a similar uplift if we felt threatened.”

As one of the first leaks we’ve heard, many of Nvidia’s plans are still open to change, so things are still unclear in the end. As soon as we learn anything new regarding the next-generation GPUs, we’ll be sure to keep you informed.
