The OnePlus 12, set to launch in 2024, is the successor to the highly regarded OnePlus 11. As OnePlus follows its ‘Never Settle’ motto, the OnePlus 12 aims to surpass its predecessor and compete with top rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The OnePlus 12 is expected to feature a sleek design in black, white, and green. It will also feature some improvements in display, camera, and battery charging.

So, it is expected to raise the bar even higher. But the burning questions are: When will it be released, and how much will it cost? In this article, we’ve gathered all the information available at this stage to keep you in the loop.

Oneplus 12 Release Date

OnePlus is turning 10 years old, and to celebrate, they’re launching the OnePlus 12 on December 5 in China (originally planned for December 4). Although there’s no official word on a global release, a leaker named Max Jambor hints at a worldwide launch on January 23, 2025.

Another source, Yogesh Brar, previously mentioned a slightly later global release, so we’ll have to wait for more details.

Oneplus 12: Expected Price and Availability

OnePlus surprised everyone by pricing the OnePlus 11 at only $699. Before this, their phones, especially the Pro models, were priced between $899 and $969. The OnePlus 11’s lower price was unexpected, but some features were compromised to achieve it.

As for the OnePlus 12, there haven’t been any rumors about its price yet. It’s possible that it could be at least $699 or even higher. Since the OnePlus 12 appears to be a decent upgrade from the previous model, the price might go beyond $699.

The use of a faster chip and a telescopic camera in the OnePlus 12 could contribute to a higher price compared to the OnePlus 11. We might see a minimum increase of $50, but special deals from carriers and trade-in offers could help offset this price hike.

Oneplus 12 Design and Display

The new design of the upcoming OnePlus phone, as revealed in leaked images by SmartPrix, is quite similar to the OnePlus 11, but there are some noticeable changes. The Alert Slider, a distinctive feature, is making a comeback. The front of the phone has a thinner bezel around the display, and the punch-hole selfie camera is now in the center instead of the corner.

A notable addition to the back is a long periscope zoom lens on the camera island. This aligns with rumors suggesting that OnePlus is adopting a more advanced style of telephoto lens. Due to the extra space it occupies, the flash has been moved from the main camera module to the top-left corner.

Furthermore, the phone might have water and dust resistance, but we don’t know the exact level yet. We’re hoping for an IP68, like other top phones.

The phone’s screen is rumored to be a 6.8-inch OLED with a super bright 2,600 nits display. This could make it one of the brightest phones around, beating other phones in brightness.

One cool feature might be a 2,160Hz PWM dimming for the display. This could be good for people who use their phones a lot, like for watching videos or playing games, as it may help reduce eye strain.

Oneplus 12 Performance

The new phone is expected to upgrade its processor, switching from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. OnePlus usually picks the latest and best chips from Qualcomm for its top phones, so the Gen 3 is a logical choice that will likely be on par with other high-end Android phones next year.

When it comes to memory, there might be different versions of the OnePlus 12. One could have 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the basic model might still have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Additionally, there might be a super fancy version with up to 24GB of RAM and a massive 1TB of storage. This would make the OnePlus 12 stand out, as it would have more memory than almost any other phone, except for a few designed specifically for gaming.

Oneplus 12 Cameras

OnePlus has historically faced challenges with its phone cameras, lacking the appeal of rivals like Google, Samsung, and Xiaomi. The brand has frequently altered its camera strategies, typically featuring primary, ultrawide, telephoto lenses, and occasionally a fourth lens in various sensor configurations. For example, the OnePlus 10 Pro introduced an extra-wide ultrawide camera that yielded unsatisfactory results, while the OnePlus 11 opted for a more conventional ultrawide lens with reduced sensor quality.

Now, with the OnePlus 12, it seems the company is stepping up its camera game. OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 12 will feature the new Sony Lytia camera, which uses a stacked pixel design similar to the OnePlus Open. This design allows the camera to capture more light for each scene, resulting in better brightness and picture quality without overexposure. This suggests that the OnePlus 12’s camera might offer flagship-level performance, addressing concerns about previous cost-cutting efforts.

Oneplus 12 Battery and Charging

The upcoming OnePlus 12 phone is expected to have a big 5,400mAh battery. What’s exciting is that it will support super-fast wired charging at 100W and bring back wireless charging, which was missing in the OnePlus 11. The wireless charging speed is anticipated to be up to 50W.

It’s important to know that the 100W charging might not be available everywhere. In the U.S., there might be a limit to 80W, similar to what happened with the OnePlus 11.

Interestingly, OnePlus plans to include a charging adapter in the box with the OnePlus 12. This is not common nowadays, as many other companies have stopped including chargers with their phones, but OnePlus is one of the few still doing it.

Final Words

The new OnePlus 12 looks a lot like the OnePlus 11, which is not a bad thing. They fixed some problems with the older model instead of making big changes. If you’re excited about the OnePlus 12, that’s great! But if you can’t wait, there are other good Android phones out there, like the Samsung Galaxy S23, that you might like too. So, keep an eye out for the OnePlus 12, but remember there are other cool options too.
