At the 49th annual People’s Choice Awards, Pedro Pascal was shortlisted for two categories. And you know what? He won the Male TV Star of the Year Award at the People’s Choice Awards 2024 for his role as Joel Miller in the HBO series The Last of Us.
The People’s Choice Awards 2024, held in Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar, hosted by Simu Liu, and broadcasted live on NBC, Peacock, and E!, brought together Hollywood’s brightest celebrities and artists to honor outstanding achievements in films, television shows, pop culture, songs, and more. And Pedro Pascal, a nominee in two categories at the 49th annual People’s Choice Awards, clinched the Male TV Star of the Year Award at the 2024 ceremony for his role as Joel Miller in HBO’s The Last of Us. Additionally, The Last of Us took home the Best Drama Show of the Year People’s Choice Award.
At the People’s Choice Awards 2024, Pedro Pascal was nominated for a total of two awards and won the Male TV Star of the Year title. To win the prize for his work in The Last of Us, Pascal defeated Kieran Culkin (Succession), Samuel L. Jackson (Secret Invasion), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Steve Martin (Only Murders in the Building), Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), and Chase Stokes (Outer Banks).
Despite his absence at the ceremony due to filming The Last of Us Season 2 in Vancouver, Pedro Pascal graciously accepted the Male TV Star of the Year trophy through satellite communication and shared his gratitude for the remarkable win.
During his acceptance speech, Pedro Pascal expressed, “I am in Vancouver right now, and I so wish I could be with all of you guys, you have no idea how much I wish I could be with you. I’ll start by recognizing the incredible fortune of having been chosen by the incredible creators of the show, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, our executive producer Caroline Strauss, and to be with Bella Ramsey leading me through it. Seriously, I wouldn’t have a character without them, and we wouldn’t have a show if it weren’t for our incredible crew, so, a huge shout-out to them.”
While Pedro Pascal gears up to conclude filming Season 2 of The Last of Us, he anticipates transitioning to his role in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four. The second season of The Last of Us is currently in production, and series creator Craig Mazin has hinted that it may not strictly adhere to the storyline of the video game that inspired it.
Mazin explained in an interview, “I’m never gonna say there are things that are gonna happen in the show that happened in the game. You never know what we’re gonna do. But I will say that it is the adventure, the journey is the point. There are things that will shock people, things that were in the game, things that were not in the game, and that’s okay. As long as they’re purposeful, they’re not there to just simply shock. We are not interested in creating social media fear. We just want to tell the story the way we think it should be told.”
In addition to Pedro Pascal’s recognition, there were many other notable award recipients in this unique awards show where fans actively participated in selecting the winners. Grey’s Anatomy won TV Show of the Year, and Barbie took home the best movie title out of 45 categories.
Among the other notable winners were Beyoncé, Jennifer Aniston, Travis Kelce, Ice Spice, Taylor Swift, and more. Also, after a career-spanning performance, Adam Sandler was given the People’s Icon Award, while Lenny Kravitz was given the Music Icon Award.
