Persona 5, released in September 2016, is considered one of the greatest role-playing games ever made. It quickly became the best-selling game in the Persona series, selling over 3.2 million copies worldwide by December 2019. By the end of 2023, it had surpassed 10 million copies sold. Because of this success, Atlus is reportedly considering bringing back two older games in the series: Persona 2 and Persona 4.
While nothing is confirmed and release dates are uncertain, there are some interesting details to discuss about Persona 2 Remaster and Persona 4 Remake.
Persona 2 Remaster and Persona 4 Remake Are Likely in Development
It looks like Persona 3 Reload might not be the final remaster for fans to look forward to. There are rumors swirling around about a remaster of Persona 2 and a remake of Persona 4. A trusted source from Japan named Midori mentioned that Atlus, the company behind the games, is working on these older titles again. But there aren’t any more details available yet.
On the ResetERA forums, a user named Head on the Block, formerly known as I’m a Hero Too, shared more details about these projects. They said Persona 2 isn’t being remade but instead remastered. This means both Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment will be improved with a new translation. The remaster will come out on all consoles, including the Nintendo Switch 2 and the next Xbox.
So, about the Persona 4 remake and Persona 2 remaster, we don’t know when they’ll come out. The second game might be out before Persona 6 or the year after. But for the Persona 4 remake, it’s going to be a while.
Although Persona 4 hasn’t had a full remake, Persona 2 got one back in 2011 for the PSP. It’s possible that Atlus will bring these games to newer consoles soon. But, even though the leakers have been right before, we shouldn’t get too excited until there’s an official announcement. That might take some time, especially since Persona 3 Reload just came out, and Atlus is busy with Persona 6 and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
