IO Interactive, a Danish company, is currently developing an unnamed James Bond game. And as the developers intensify their development efforts, some new hints from IO Interactive showcase some ambitious aspirations.

The developer is actively looking for individuals to join their animation team, indicating a significant push for high-quality animation in the game. They’ve put out calls for animators, and snippets from the Animation team members have been shared on the studio’s Twitter account, providing insight to attract potential candidates.

The Senior Gameplay Animator, Joshua Andrew Gleaves, expressed the team’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of Gameplay Animation, aiming for something unprecedented. In the job description, he said, “We are pushing Gameplay Animation to something yet unseen. It’s constantly challenging, yet rewarding, as the team push each other to achieve new heights. You will help cement the animations on Bond and the world we are making, on an exciting new canvas.”

The Senior Cinematic Animator, Gemma Costa also expressed her excitement about the lively atmosphere within the Project 007 team stating the team covers all aspects of the animation process, with each member taking ownership of their space. She said, “We have a solid team that covers all aspects of the animation process. Everyone owns their space, and there is a lot of open collaboration between teams. You are really hands-on in several aspects of the production. It’s amazing how well that aspect works in IOI. There is a lot of enthusiasm and drive to grow.”

While specific roles like Cinematic Gameplay Animator, Gameplay Animator, and Facial Animator are being actively looked for, these are just a few among the 22 roles listed for Project 007 on IO Interactive’s website. Considering that the game was announced in November 2020, that would sound odd. However, the gaming sector is famous for having a high staff turnover rate. Because of this, it is common for game developers to continue hiring during the whole production process.

However, the focus on hiring animators suggests that the game has likely entered full production, raising expectations for a potential reveal, possibly during events like not-E3 in June or The Game Awards in December.

Apart from these, a new job listing from IO Interactive for Project 007, the James Bond game, suggests that it might feature both first-person and third-person gameplay. While prior job listings hinted at third-person gameplay, the latest listing for a Senior Level Designer (Combat) specifies experience with first-person combat. The job listing says, “Expertise in crafting levels for third-person (or first-person) action-adventure games.” This indicates the possibility of incorporating both perspectives in different segments of the game, similar to the approach taken by MachineGames’ Indiana Jones game.

Regarding the title, it’s clarified that the game won’t keep the codename Project 007 and will be called something else. According to IO’s official announcement, “Project 007 (working title) is a brand new James Bond video game which is set to feature an entirely original Bond story, allowing players to step into the shoes of the iconic Secret Agent and earn their 00 status in the inaugural James Bond origin story.”

Although there aren’t many details yet, Project 007 will be the first new Bond game to hit our platforms in a long time when it releases. The developers promise a fresh take on the Bond experience, introducing a new, youthful Bond, and they’re determined to make an exciting action game that doesn’t rely solely on the popularity of its lead character.

Furthermore, IO Interactive’s job posting hinted at Project 007 being a third-person action game. The listing sought individuals with experience in third-person action games for the upcoming Bond title, emphasizing its wholly original nature. Although no official confirmation has been provided, this detail strongly suggests the possibility of playing Bond in a third-person perspective, a natural fit considering the studio’s history with Hitman.

While details about the project remain scarce for now, fans eagerly await more information about this exciting title.
