It seems that a glimpse of the upcoming PS5 Slim model design might have leaked out prior to any official announcement from Sony.
The internet recently lit up with the purported first image of what many are calling the new PS5 Slim model. This picture reportedly surfaced on a Chinese forum, with the poster asserting that it was taken from the console’s packaging.

An image revealing what appears to be a fresh version of the PS5 Slim model design has been posted by a member of a Chinese online community. This individual claims to have come into possession of the packaging for this revised PS5 model, which apparently included details about a detachable disc drive.
Several observations were made that aligned with previous accounts when forum participants started discussing the details regarding the console’s specifications and size. These remarks, notably concerning the console’s shape, design, and branding, are largely similar to the earlier reports.
According to the details revealed, the lead Ps5 Slim model certainly holds a slimmer profile, complemented by a new black-toned slit on both its front and rear covers. Also worth noting is the presence of two Type-C USB ports on the front, an upgrade from the single port on earlier models.
Also, the height of this new PS5 Slim model edition is purportedly around 5 cm leaner compared to previous models, giving it a sleeker appearance. However, its thickness is reported to remain consistent with its predecessors. Therefore, it’s unlikely to be marketed as the PS5 Slim.

Now even though, the image made available online is a bit grainy and magnified, obscuring most of the details, it is still enough to gather fan’s interest. Also, the legitimacy of this leak is yet to be confirmed by reliable sources, yet it’s intriguing to note that these images emerged on the same forum that initially leaked images of the PlayStation 5 console’s outer casing back in 2020.
As of now, Sony hasn’t acknowledged the existence of this new hardware iteration. However, in recent times, legal documents presented during the Microsoft vs. FTC trial hinted at a ‘PlayStation Slim’ being slated for release later in 2023. Concurrently, there was a substantial discount on the existing PlayStation 5 hardware, sparking speculation that this move might be an attempt to clear out old stock in preparation for the arrival of new units like the PS5 Slim model.
Additionally, insider reports by individuals like Henderson suggest that this updated PS5 version aka PS5 Slim model would sport a removable disc drive and a brand-new chassis. Currently, the PS5 comes in two variants: one with a full disc drive and another digital-only version, sans a disc drive and priced lower.
