Nintendo Has “No Plans” for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom DLC

While the game achieved blockbuster status upon its release earlier this year, Nintendo has decided not to pursue any sort of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC or additional post-release content for this installment, in contrast to its predecessor.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC is not being planned by Nintendo

An extensive interview with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s producer, Eiji Aonuma, and director, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, has recently been published by Famitsu. Although the interview primarily focuses on the creation of Tears of the Kingdom’s world and its development following Breath of the Wild, a specific question toward the end offers insight into the possibility of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom DLC for this year’s successful Zelda game.

During the interview, Eiji Aonuma confirmed that Nintendo has no plans to release any Tears of the Kingdom DLC. Aonuma explained that the decision stems from their belief that they have already created a highly enjoyable gaming experience for players, leaving no room for additional downloadable content. He further clarified that the decision to create a sequel to the previous game was driven by the desire to offer players a fresh gaming experience within the same Hyrule universe.

Aonuma hinted that should a compelling reason arise in the future, the development team might revisit the same world once more. Whether it results in a sequel or an entirely new project, he expressed confidence that it would be an entirely distinct game, and he eagerly anticipates fans’ excitement for it.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released on Nintendo Switch on May 12.

Currently, it appears that the team is not actively working on any Tears of the Kingdom DLC or post-launch content, apart from minor bug fixes and periodic updates since May. In contrast, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild received The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad expansions in June and December of 2017, respectively, following the original game’s release on March 3 of the same year.

Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the director of Tears of the Kingdom, has mentioned that his focus lies on crafting “the next fun experience” for the Zelda series, although the exact form it will take remains uncertain.

Well, Aonuma has not entirely ruled out the possibility of Tears of the Kingdom DLC but has dismissed the current rumors, leaving the door slightly ajar for future developments.
