Helldivers 2 is now the best-selling video game of 2024 in the United States, comprising both physical and digital sales.
Helldivers 2 was the best-selling game in Europe in February, according to a report earlier this week, with PC sales making up 56% of the game’s sales in that region. However, a new report indicates that Helldivers 2 was also the best-selling game in the US in February and the best-selling game of the year overall.
As shared by Mat Piscatella of Circana (formerly NPD) on X, the cooperative shooter secured first place in various charts, including best-selling premium games, best-selling PlayStation games, and most played on Steam charts for the month of February 2024.
Even though the title wasn’t released until February 8, it has also led the lists of the best-selling premium games in the US this year, including sales from both January and February. Interestingly, Piscatella also mentioned that PC sales accounted for over 60% of Helldivers 2 sales, with a higher percentage of copies sold on Steam than on the PS5.
The combined sales of Helldivers 2 on PS5 and PC resulted in its total dollar sales for its launch month ranking as the 7th highest ever achieved by a Sony-published title in the US, according to Circana.

Well although this surprising title is reported to have sold over eight million copies, that figure is likely to have climbed since then. Furthermore, according to SteamDB, Helldivers 2 has routinely attracted more than 430,000 concurrent players on Steam, despite Sony not having disclosed official sales data.
Also, because of the game’s enormous popularity, there have been rumors that its creator, Stockholm-based Arrowhead Game firm, may be bought by PlayStation; however, the firm has refuted these rumors. So, it would be interesting to see how the future of Helldivers 2 turns out.
As for the gaming hardware, the PlayStation 5 was the best-selling gaming console in terms of both unit and dollar sales. In terms of dollars sold, Xbox Series X|S hardware ranked second, but Nintendo Switch held the top spot in terms of units sold. The U.S. gaming sector spent $4.7 billion overall, with a 17% growth in mobile spending being the main driver, However, all console platforms were down at least 19% from the previous year, according to Piscatella.
