According to the latest reports, there are possibilities that 2K Games is working on an “Unannounced Remake” of one of its classic titles.
This news was first reported by MP1st and the original info comes from Brett Shupe‘s LinkedIn page, who is a 3D artist and motion capture animator at 2K Games. In his list of projects, he has mentioned an “upcoming unannounced remake” and this has led to many speculations and rumors.
2K Games Is Reportedly Working On An “Unannounced Remake”
A developer at 2K Games has listed several upcoming games on their resume, including WWE 2K25, NBA 2K25, a new Mafia game, a highly-anticipated BioShock game, and a canceled project called “Erebus” by Supermassive Games. But the most highlighted part in his profile is the mention of “upcoming unannounced remake.”
It’s not uncommon for a studio with such a rich history to remaster or remake classic games for modern consoles. However, the mention of an “unannounced remake” has sparked excitement, especially among BioShock fans.
The developer didn’t specify which game is being remade, but some likely candidates from 2K’s history include BioShock, possibly to coincide with the development of BioShock 4, and Spec Ops: The Line, which has a dedicated fanbase despite being removed from stores due to a licensing issue.
- BioShock: Given the franchise’s enduring popularity and critical acclaim, a remake of the original BioShock is a top candidate. The first BioShock game, released in 2007, is still regarded as one of the best video games ever made. Although the trilogy was remastered in 2016, fans would undoubtedly welcome a full remake.
- Spec Ops: The Line: Another strong possibility is Spec Ops: The Line, a third-person shooter released in 2012. Despite its initial underwhelming sales, the game has since achieved cult status, particularly praised for its intense and thought-provoking story. Interestingly, the game was recently delisted from online stores, which might indicate preparations for a remake.
Well, 2K Games is no stranger to remakes as it’s been nearly four years since 2K Games released a remake, with Mafia: Definitive Edition, a full remake of the original Mafia game. And the positive reception to this project suggests that 2K is keen to revisit and rejuvenate its older titles for modern audiences.
Now apart from the remake, the LinkedIn profile also hints at other upcoming games that are not yet announced, described as an “upcoming unannounced title” and an “upcoming unannounced sports title.” These vague descriptions indicate that 2K has been exploring various projects and suggest that there could either be new games in existing series or entirely new IPs that 2K isn’t ready to reveal.
However, we’ll have to wait for the 2K Games to officially announce these projects. Moreover, it’s important to remember that game development is unpredictable, and not all announced projects, like the canceled Erebus, make it to release.
Previously, 2K Games has successfully remade the Mafia trilogy and improved the BioShock games in BioShock: The Collection, so, if there is actually a remake in the development, fans will have to wait for official announcements.
