Jedi Survivor Sequel May Be in Development, suggests new job listing

There are indications that Respawn Entertainment is planning a trilogy for the Star Wars Jedi series. The company has reportedly hired a writer for an upcoming game, suggesting the development of a future Jedi game, possibly a Jedi Survivor Sequel or DLC.

Stig Asmussen, the director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, has previously expressed his desire for Cal Kestis’ story to span a trilogy. The job ad emphasizes the need for writers who can seamlessly write within the Star Wars universe.

While this hiring could be related to other Star Wars projects by Respawn, it strongly suggests the development of the next Star Wars Jedi game, currently referred to as Star Wars Jedi 3 or Jedi Survivor Sequel.

Respawn’s Job Opening Hints at Jedi Survivor Sequel Development

Respawn Entertainment’s job opening, discovered on Reddit, clearly mentions the Star Wars series multiple times, indicating their ongoing project. While it’s unclear if it’s a DLC or a Jedi Survivor Sequel, the news of another installment wouldn’t be unexpected, given the success of the franchise.

One of these job postings is for a principal game writer, a senior-level position that asks for candidates with 8+ years of experience writing AAA title games. Other postings included those for senior VFX artists.

This new title is early in development and likely won’t release for a couple of years. Jedi Fallen Order was released in 2019, and Jedi Survivor was released in 2023, so it could be a few years before the third game, possibly the Jedi Survivor Sequel releases.

In an interview with IGN, Respawn Jedi director Stig Asmussen said that the Jedi series was always meant to be a trio and that all three games were planned before the Jedi Fallen Order came out.

Before Fallen Order came out, Jedi Survivor was given the go-ahead. This means that a third game in the series has probably also been accepted. The development of Survivor was notably swift, with a duration of only 3 years, which is relatively short for AAA titles. Considering this timeline, a potential release of the Star Wars Jedi 3 game in 2026 or 2027 is not out of the question.

Limited Details and Early Stages: Jedi Survivor Sequel

The details regarding the upcoming Star Wars Jedi Survivor Sequel are currently limited. The job posting for writers does not provide extensive information about the project, aside from its existence. The hired writers will have various responsibilities, including character and dialogue writing, casting documents, and marketing materials.

Considering that the original game was released in March, it’s not surprising that the development of this unannounced sequel is still in its early stages, with a lot of work ahead.

While Respawn Entertainment is concurrently working on a Star Wars FPS and strategy game, the outlined responsibilities in the job posting suggest that the hired writer will be primarily involved in a Jedi game.

The timeframe for the release of the next game remains uncertain, but considering the three-year-four-month gap between Fallen Order and Survivor, a similar wait may be expected. However, development could potentially be expedited as the game is likely to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X, allowing the developers to leverage existing hardware knowledge.

With the end of pandemic-related lockdowns, potential obstacles faced during Survivor’s development may be minimized. Nonetheless, the public announcement of the Star Wars Jedi Survivor Sequel is still awaited, despite its apparent existence.

In conclusion, different companies are working on different Star Wars games, so fans have a lot to look forward to. This year, EA’s license to make the only Star Wars games ends. Studios like Ubisoft, Quantic Dream, and Skydance New Media have already announced their own Star Wars games, which is a good sign for the franchise’s future.
