Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin Spells

In Baldur’s Gate 3, if you want to play a Paladin character, they’re great for being up close and personal with enemies. They use their Charisma, which is like their charm and presence, to be strong in heavy armor and deal powerful melee attacks. Paladins can also use some magic, but only up to level 3 spells. Now, picking the right spells for your Paladin is important, especially on harder game settings. Here are eight top Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spells to help you make your character strong and effective in the game.

Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin Spells

Below we have detailed all the top spells for Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin in an order of least good to the best.

8. Wrathful Smite

Wrathful Smite is a spell that does a bit of Psychic damage, which might not be super strong, but it can help finish off enemies who are already hurt.

What’s really good about this Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spell is that it can make enemies scared if they fail to resist it with their wisdom.

Scared enemies can’t move and are not good at attacking or doing other things. This is helpful because it can keep strong enemies in one spot, so your Paladin or friends can beat them more easily.

7. Blinding Smite

Blinding Smite is a powerful third-level Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spell. When you use it along with your regular Smite ability, it adds extra radiant damage and might even blind your target.

If you use Blinding Smite with your first attack, your second one gets an advantage because of the blindness.

This is great not only for you but also for your team, as all their attacks will also be more accurate against the blinded enemy. Just be smart and use it on enemies with low Constitution, so they’re more likely to fail their saving throw.

6. Searing Smite

Searing Smite is a level 1 Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spell. Spells can be used for various things like hurting enemies, causing status problems, making your characters stronger, or affecting the environment.

Among the different Smite spells, Searing Smite is the most powerful one. It deals fire damage, which is often resisted by enemies, but it also keeps hurting them on later turns by burning them. However, it requires an extra bonus action, which might not be used.

To make Searing Smite even stronger, you can use the Elemental Weapon spell to add extra fire damage. You can also use an Oil of Combustion to set your target on fire before combat or on a previous turn.

5. Crusader’s Mantle

Think of Crusader’s Mantle as an upgraded version of Bless. When you use it, everyone nearby gets extra damage on their attacks, like a bonus roll of a special 4-sided die. This bonus can apply to your whole team, even if they’re fighting different enemies.

The cool thing is, if you score a critical hit, this bonus damage gets doubled. Plus, because it’s radiant damage, hardly any creatures can resist it.

The only downside is that you need a third-level spell slot, but it’s the best Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spell for that level.

4. Elemental Weapon

Elemental Weapon is a powerful level 3 Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spell. It’s from the Transmutation school of magic. Spells in the game can do different things like hurting enemies, causing status problems, making characters stronger, or changing the environment.

This spell is really strong because it makes your attacks better by increasing your chance to hit and adding an extra 1d4 damage of any type you pick. This is great because it helps you get past enemies with lots of resistance and immunity.

You can use this spell on any weapon, even the ones that your friends are holding. This can make your weak characters stronger or your strong characters even more powerful. The only thing to remember is to stay focused on the spell, but it lasts a long time and can even be cast before a fight starts.

3. Bless

Paladins can use a helpful level 1 spell called “Bless.” It’s a spell that can be used on three of your party members, making them better at hitting enemies and avoiding danger.

When you cast Bless, each of these three characters gets a bonus to their attack rolls and saving throws, making them more effective in battle. It’s a straightforward spell that boosts your team’s damage without any major drawbacks.

Only Paladins and Clerics can use Bless, so having a Paladin in your party is handy for this useful spell.

2. Misty Step

Misty Step is a special Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spell that follows the Oath of the Ancients or Oath of Vengeance. It’s really useful because it lets your Paladin quickly move to a spot they can see up to 18 meters away without getting attacked by enemies. Paladins usually fight up close, so this Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladin spell helps them get to faraway enemies fast.

The best part is that you can still attack after using it because it’s a bonus action. So, Misty Step is a great way for Paladins to move around the battlefield safely and strike their foes.

1. Warden Of Vitality

The Warden of Vitality is a fantastic healing ability for  Baldur’s Gate 3 Paladins spell. When you use it, you can choose a friend to heal for 2d6 hit points initially, and then it continues to heal them for 10 turns.

This spell works well both in and out of battles. In fights, you cast it once and then use it as a bonus action on your turns without using up your spell slots.

Outside of battles, one casting can pretty much fully heal your whole group with just a level 3 spell slot.
