CD Projekt Red made the official announcement of the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion, in October 2022. Just like the first game, they confirmed the project before starting pre-production. They thought it would be easier to find talented people to work on a game that everyone knows about.
Now, CD Projekt Red’s new studios in Boston and Vancouver are hiring for their upcoming project. They’ve posted 18 job openings on their website, mentioning that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will use Unreal Engine 5. They’ve also shared the following gameplay details about the game.
- Cutscenes and movie sequences will be full of emotion and action.
- Crafting mechanics from Cyberpunk 2077 will make a comeback.
- There will be more open-world events compared to Cyberpunk 2077.
- The game might have multiple maps, as they aim to create breathtaking worlds.

It seems like CD Projekt Red is hiring experienced developers for their new game, Project Orion as Dan Hernberg, who used to work at Amazon Games and Blizzard Entertainment, is now the executive producer, whereas, Ryan Barnard, known for his work at Ubisoft Massive and IO Interactive, joins as the design director.
On the other hand, Alan Villani, who worked on Mortal Kombat games, will be the engineering director. And finally, Anna Megill, known for her work on games like Control and Dishonored: Death of The Outsider, is the lead writer, while Alexander Freed will assist with writing in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
Well, Cyberpunk 2077 was released in 2020 after almost ten years of development. After its launch, Cyberpunk 2077 faced significant controversy due to its poor gameplay experience like bugs, performance, movement, etc. However, over the course of three years and multiple updates, CD Projekt Red has worked to improve the game, bringing it to its current state.
The redemption of Cyberpunk began with the release of the Netflix anime series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” by Studio Trigger. The show’s popularity, combined with ongoing updates, led to major improvements in the game’s mechanics. In 2023, an expansion titled Phantom Liberty, featuring Idris Elba was launched for PlayStation 5.
Now, with the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel aka Project Orion likely being in the early stages of development, with some of the most experienced talents working on the project, fans have significantly higher hopes. However, only time can tell what awaits the fan in the future.
