The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel game, called Project Orion, will stick with the first-person view that made the original so immersive.
A recent job post from CD Projekt Red’s Boston team hints that the sequel will keep the same gameplay style that players loved. Here’s what we’ve learned from this job listing.
Job Listing Confirms First-Person Perspective for Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is sticking with the first-person perspective for its Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, Project Orion. A new job listing confirms that CDPR is hiring a Senior Gameplay Animator to improve first-person immersion, making movement and weapon animations feel even better.
The listing says: “As a Senior View Model Animator, you’ll be an integral part of the game development process, using your expertise to enhance the players immersive experience in first person view.“
Reddit user Lymbasy was the first to spot this listing and it shows that CDPR is doubling down on the immersive experience from the first game.
Back when Cyberpunk 2077 first launched, some players weren’t sure about the first-person view. But over time, it became one of the game’s strongest features.

The Legacy of First-Person in Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red chose a first-person perspective for Cyberpunk 2077 to make the game feel more immersive and personal. Playing as V, you see the world through their eyes, making every conversation and action feel more real.
Even cutscenes, including the more intimate moments, stay in first-person, so nothing ever feels disconnected from gameplay. The game’s interface is also built around this view, keeping important info right in front of you without cluttering the screen.
This design choice makes Night City feel alive while also fitting perfectly with the game’s themes of technology, identity, and human-machine integration.
At first, some people weren’t sure about this choice, but it worked out great—over 30 million copies had sold by November 2024. Because of this success, CD Projekt Red will probably stick with first-person in the sequel, Project Orion.
Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Release Date
Project Orion, is still in pre-production as of February 2025. There’s no official release date yet, but experts think it might come out sometime between 2028 and 2030.
A big reason for the long wait is that the studio is focusing on The Witcher 4. Back in August 2024, they said The Witcher 4 was done with pre-production and moving into full development. Since a lot of resources are going into that game, work on Project Orion might not really pick up until The Witcher 4 is closer to being finished. That could mean Project Orion won’t be ready until the late 2020s or even early 2030s.
With such a long timeline, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will likely be built for next-gen consoles, like the PlayStation 6 and whatever comes after the Xbox Series X/S, along with PC.
For now, we know that CD Projekt Red is sticking with the first-person view for its Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, Project Orion. With the first game’s success, it looks like they want to keep that same feel and pull players right into the action again.
