Some leaked documents from a ransomware attack on Insomniac Games suggest that the studio might be developing a new Spider-Verse game.
Yesterday, news broke about a hack at Insomniac, and Sony confirmed that it’s true. They’re looking into the attack. The hackers, called Rhysida, are now trying to sell the data through an auction, starting at 50 bitcoins, which is about $2 million.
According to a Reddit user, internal documents mention projects like Spider-Man 3, “RCE,” and a confirmed Spider-Verse game. Insomniac is currently working on a multiplayer title, leading fans to speculate that it could be linked to the Spider-Verse game.
“I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if Insomniac’s multiplayer game is a Spider-Verse game where you get to create your own Spider character,” said u/poklane.
On top of that, there’s this speculation that the multiplayer game might allow players to create their own Spider character with full suit customization and the ability to choose powers. The game could feature a character creation system, allowing players to craft their own unique hero and shape their personal backstory. Some of the playable characters in the game could include Peter, Miles, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Punk.
The leaked documents also hint at other unannounced projects in the works at Insomniac.
A group called Rhysida claimed they did the ransomware attack on Insomniac Games and said they have files with future project plans. The group posted files they accessed as proof. The leaked data may include:
- Internal emails
- Confidential documents
- Passport scans
- Personal information of employees
- Images and details regarding the upcoming Wolverine game
Well, we are well aware that Insomniac Games’ upcoming project, Marvel’s Wolverine, is slated for release in 2024. So, the new images of Marvel’s Wolverine shared by hackers online give more credence to the fact that a new Spider-Verse Game might be in development.
