Pokemon Scarlet and Violet – Starters
Let’s just head over to the main part of our article, the Pokemon Gen 9 starters and their characteristics.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter – Sprigatito
“The capricious, attention-seeking Grass Cat Pokémon.”
Sprigatito is the first Pokemon Gen 9 starter to be debuted. It is a Grass-type Pokémon. The origins of this name are Sprig (meaning small leaf) and Gatito (Spanish word meaning kitten).
We are yet to see Sprigatito in action. But we still have a firm outline of its characteristics on the basis of its official description. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Sprigatito is called ‘capricious and attention-seeking.’ However, the Japanese website calls this Pokémon ‘whimsical and spoiled.’
Sprigatito’s ability to Overgrow came on the screen for the first time in 2002 in Ruby and Sapphire. It levels up all Grass-type moves by 50 percent, as soon as the player’s HP goes lower than or equals 1/3 in total.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter – Fuecoco
“The laid-back Fire Croc Pokémon that does things at its own pace.”
The popular opinion about the origins of the name Fuecoco is that this Pokémon’s name is a cross of Fuego (meaning fire), and Coco (assumed to be a reference to Spain’s Coco ghost myth). This is not official, of course. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Fuecoco is the heaviest of the three Pokémons.
Since Fuecoco’s debut late last month, the appearance of this peculiar Pokémon has been the point of debate for many people. Some people claim that the white face is supposed to be symbolic of an apple’s inside. With the risk of being a little morbid, others like to claim that it is supposed to represent a skull, giving this Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter an opportunity for being used in ghost themes.
One point of agreement for both English and Japanese websites on this Pokemon Gen 9 starter is that it is laid back. Fuecoco’s Blaze Ability was introduced originally in the Hoenn region and features Fire-type moves, brought into play when its health drop low enough.
Here are the characteristics of this Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter.

- Weight: 21.6 lbs.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter – Quaxly
“The earnest and tidy Duckling Pokémon.”
At number 3, we have the cap-wearing duck-looking Pokémon Quaxly. The name doesn’t seem to have any Spanish roots (or English ones for that matter. It just seemed to have been named after the sound it makes.
One aspect of this Pokemon Gen 9 starter is that the description of its personality differs based on the region. On the English website, it is described as being tidy and serious, while on the Japanese one, it is said to be serious and good-looking. Also, this is the tallest Pokémon on this list.
Quaxly’s Ability is Torrent, meaning it powers all Water-type moves when the player’s HP has dipped down enough.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter – Evolutions
As mentioned, these three Pokémons serve to be your companions in the game, at least at the beginning. Game Freak is yet to announce any Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter evolution. Some people suggest that Sprigatito is supposed to be based on the famous character, the European ‘Puss in Boots.’ If this turns out to be true, then Sprigatito could definitely evolve to being a two-legged musketeer.
While we are on the topic of theories, there has been a lot of guesswork about Fuecoco being this series’ second Ghost/Fire-type, not unlike Hisuian Typhlosion in Pokémon Legends Arecus. Coco is in Spain what Bogeyman is to America.
But all these are just what they say: theories. The speculations on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter evolutions are not to be taken 100% at their word before an official announcement comes through from Game Freak. Just treat these as hors d’oeuvre to the entrée.
We will update you with the new information as soon as it comes out, so keep following Gamevro.
