Leaked information hints at a potential mid-cycle refresh for the Xbox Series X, codenamed “Brooklin,” which would be a digital-only cylindrical console launching around October 2024. Industry insiders like Jeff Grubb and Brad Sams have mentioned these rumors, but it’s important to note that plans might still change within Microsoft.

What did Grubb Say on Next-Gen Xbox Console?

Grubb mentioned that there are rumors coming from someone who leaked information about PlayStation. Grubb is talking about rumors from someone on Twitter named Idle Sloth. Now, this person is saying that Xbox will have a new console called “Xbox Next” in 2026, either as an upgraded version (Pro) or a completely new console.

Furthermore, the leaker suggests that some plans have been canceled, and they are speeding up the development of Xbox Next, possibly starting the next generation a few years earlier than originally planned.

Microsoft plans on Next-Gen Xbox Console

Microsoft might release a new Xbox console around late 2026, fitting into their plans for the FY26 timeline and the “Fairhaven vision.” This vision covers their strategy for hardware, content, and services from FY25 to FY27.

Unlike focusing solely on power, the new Xbox could be the first to heavily integrate AI. Microsoft has invested a lot in AI, and the console might have dedicated AI accelerators, like NPUs, working with a customized SoC. Leaks also suggest it might use an ARM64 CPU instead of x64, likely for better AI and cloud integration.

This AI emphasis could impact various aspects, like smart advertising within games and improved tools for creating and sharing user-generated content. Cloud technology might play a big role, especially in processes like flexible advertising and content creation tools.

While there’s no official confirmation, leaks hint at these possibilities. Xbox gaming CEO Phil Spencer has mentioned they don’t see a need for an Xbox Pro upgrade as of now.

There were rumors suggesting that a new Xbox console is supposed to come out in 2028, according to leaked Microsoft documents. It’s unclear whether this is an earlier release than originally planned or if it’s a more powerful version of the current Xbox Series X. Keep in mind that these are just rumors, and Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything. We’ll keep an eye out for any official statements and update the story if there’s any new information.
